Maccabeus
I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light on these verses for me, as I'm a simple type of man and sometimes gets easily confussed. btw I'm quoting the Douay Rheimes Version... [36] He that believeth in the Son, hath life everlasting; but he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. [55] He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. So how do these two scriptures work together, at first glance they almost seem contradictory?!
Pontifex
These scripture passages may seem to contradict one another but they certainly do not. There is a fluidity between believing in Jesus and his teachings and eating his flesh and drinking his blood. The two statements connect in that we are called to believe in the Lord Jesus and what he has taught us, with the climax of that teaching being the beautiful scandal of the Eucharist lined out for us in John 6. I hope that helps in some way.
