Lizzy
I was just a kid too. In upstate New York. But my dad was flying that day, and there were a horrible few hours of suspense as I tried to figure out if he was in one of the planes. He wasn't. I'm living in Brooklyn now though, so on Sunday after mass I went to an interfaith prayer service on the promenade (the big pedestrian walkway across the water from the financial district with a perfect skyline view) that our priest was participating in. His homily in mass was on the dangers of hatred, and it was beautiful to come together afterward and pray for healing with not only other Christians, but Jews and Muslims. It was interesting how well the chant blended together - from our priest, from the Maronite rite priest, from the imams, from the rabbis. Just a wonderful way to remember for a moment that we are all children of Abraham.
OnlySunshine
Watching a show about 9-11 yesterday I heard that familiar BANG BANG BANG gunshot like sound. Maybe Id never caught on before, maybe I missed the explanation but Id always assumed it was beams or other things in the buildings breaking. It was people hitting the ground. As someone who is a burn victim I have some tiny sense of why they jumped. The pain is unimaginable. All you do is want to get away from it. You cant think straight at all. To give some comparison if youve ever had the wind knocked out of you and youve been gasping for air all you think about is "gotta breathe, gotta breathe" Magnify that by a zillion times and you can start to see why they jumped. I am terrified of heights and cannot stand the feeling of free fall but when I think of the pain I endured burning, which was nothing compared to being faced with a burning jet! And think of what they mustve faced Im sure even for me the jump would have probably started to look pretty good.
I was so thankful that I was not in New York that day close to the towers. I don't think I could have survived watching all those people plummet to their deaths. I have a great fear of heights and when I watched a documentary on those who decided to end their suffering in the heat and smoke by jumping out the window, I had nightmares that I was looking out from the gaping hole on the side of the tower, looking down and then falling. I remember waking up sweating so much that I had to change. It was awful. I can't imagine the suffering and torment those people went through, knowing that the rescuers would not be able to get there in time.
i<3LSOP
I was only a toddler and I was with my mom in the store getting my brother a mat for school.......... I don't remember anything whatsoever. The thing is, on 911the amount of people is the same as one day of babies being killed by abortion... and abortion goes on every day... Yikes................. we need to pray for our world! Edited September 18, 2011 by i<3LSOP
