the austin diocese has a CCW and its pretty active. they raise funds for seminarians. they are a bunch of old ladies, but they are an active bunch of old ladies...

cool story bro.

i'm not trying to disparage the work that the CCW ladies do...they usually do everything for all the funeral luncheons, they organize the graduating seniors' Mass, they also organize bake sales, religious article sales, etc.

Catholic Daughters here is pretty much exactly like the CCW (my gramma is in CDA). lol. the CCW circles here are constantly trying to get young women involved, but pretty much no one i know is interested (nor am i interested) because of busy schedules, work schedules, kids' schedules, husband schedules, etc.

edit, here's CDA's website. slightly better than the national CCW website, but still. :twitch:

After looking at a bunch of Church websites in our new diocese, I think that Catholic organizations in general need to work on their website developing skills...

Back on topic, I don't know much about the CDA at our old parish, just that someone who was in the young adults group was also in CDA so I know it wasn't just old ladies. :hehe: Oh! I think I also had to sit through a very long Mass where they were inducting new CDA officers or something like that, and it took FOREVER, and I needed to get to work, so I ended up having to leave before they even got to the consecration, and it was the only Mass I could make it to that weekend. I was not happy.

Having been in both ACCW, and now CWL, the Canadian bunch is much better organized with a much stronger central organization. I don't know if it is because there's ACCW, DCCW and NCCW, where here it is just CWL. In my parish, it isn't just old women. Maybe I just think that because I'm one of the old women. Our executives are all in their late 40's to 50's. In the states, I joined when I was in my late 20's, and the next oldest person was 40 something, but there were lots over 70.

I'm guessing the reason it is usually old ladies is because they're probably the ones who have the time, since they don't have kids to take care of anymore. I know that was how it was with the KoC council at our old parish. Well, they had younger guys, but they weren't able to do as much, because they didn't have the same amount of time as the older guys, and then it turned into almost a vicious cycle, because the older guys would plan stuff that wasn't so easy on guys with families so they continued to be minimally involved.

The CCW organization is phishy.
They promote unorthodox organizations[Catholic Common Ground Initiative, Pax Christi, Sierra Club (anti-Catholic, pro-abortion organization that promotes the myth of overpopulation)], Strong emphasis on liberal political causes[Global Warming and Climate Change, World AIDS Day, National Health Care for Children], questionable links on their website[Bread for the World, Network, Maryknoll, Sacred Space]

I think they are dwindling away b/c the post 60s and 70s feminist women don't have the liberal worldview from the 60s and 70s.

This is not an attack, but rather a legitimate question. Why is Maryknoll a questionable link? My parents have been giving to Maryknoll for years, and we get their newsletter about their ministries. Yes, in most places of the world, they don't wear habits, but I haven't seen anything that makes me belief they are unfaithful to the Church. Please let me know if there is something that we don't know about... honestly the last time I read their magazine was before I became more familiar with the faith.

Yes. Kinda like Girl Scouts. There are great local groups. But as for the Girl Scouts of America organization, it is a total different story.

I see them as a political activist group in support of liberation theology.
Orbis Books (Maryknoll's publishing division) offers radical heterodox books
Embraces popular political causes devoid of a spiritual outlook. Their website is completely void of anything spiritual, focusing totally on material, social, and political problems.
They elected Co-President of Pax Christi as their Director of Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns
