Two of the SMMC sisters left to begin a new community in Santa Rosa, CA and like the SMMCs they are very marian based and will have the mass in both forms. How wonderful is that??? Their website is not up yet but they do have a Facebook page.

Please keep them in your prayers, that they may get many many vocations. Anyone who thinks they might have a call to this community should definitely contact them.

Totally Franciscan

HopefulBride, do you know anything about this community? What kind of ministry do they do? Is there work different from the SMMC's? Gosh, I am just full of questions tonight. I live fairly close to Santa Rosa and would like to know more about them. Thanks.

Maybe its just because we don't really see it over here, but lovely though they seem, I do find it a little odd how many stand alone communities there are. I guess I don't really understand why, if they are basically following almost the same charism, they don't just make a foundation and stay within the same congregation? I really do think there is something to be said about having that unity, sharing formation skills, identifying with the same habit, having other communities to call on for help and advice, etc. Each community would still develop its own 'feel', there would just be a more solid foundation. But thats just my opinion!

How beautiful! I can see from the description on their facebook page that they do have a different charism from their old community. When the Holy Spirit gives a charism, it's hard to ignore Him I would think. The approval of Bishop Vasa would seem to confirm it because it is just not easy to find a bishop to approve new communities especially more traditional ones. I live near the SMMC's and can see the difference just from looking at the pictures although what is seen looks similiar to their former community. The pictures of the beautiful chapel on their FB page looks like it might be a Carmelite chapel.

I just read the SMMC's story of how they came to be. What a beautiful story. God bless them!

Now there are three of them from that schismatic community; Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church then Sisters of Mary, Mother of Our Savior in Michigan and now Marian Sisters of Santa Rosa. God bless them for more vocations. Bishop Vasa needs them to reform the Church in Santa Rosa

I am guessing that this "let's set off and do our own thing!" may be a particularly American tendency, and that happens less often in Europe.

Which could be an illustration of how the Church works together as a whole. Some cultures emphasize more stability and continuity. Some cultures emphasize more "God is doing a new thing here and now!" Either one alone can get pretty messy pretty quick. When they all interplay, something wonderful can happen.

Hopefully.

When I searched the Sisters of Mary, Mother of Our Savior, I ended up finding the Daughters of Mary, Mother of our Savior. Pretty cool order and I'd never heard of them before!

Unfortunately, the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Our Savior are not in communion with the Church. They are sedevacantists and believe that the Pope's chair is vacant and that Pope Benedict XVI is not the real pope. :(

It really is a shame because they have such a beautiful charism and apostolate. We must pray for their reunion with Rome.

1) Have the proper spiritual, mental, and physical abilities to practice with regularity the austerities and other observances of religious life.
2) Have sufficient virtue, a desire to seek evangelical perfection, and the ability to accept and apply corrections.
3) Be free from any debts which they are unable to satisfy.
4) Be single.

When the original 15 sisters left the schismatic community the only thing they knew for sure was that the Lord was calling them to unity with the Church. 10 stayed and started the SMMC community, 4 went on to found Sisters of Our lady of Divine Grace (I always seem to get the name wrong) 1 is in the lay state still discerning. What the SMMC sisters shared with me was that they are in a way still discerning as it is with any new community within its first few years.

One thing that is common among all three communities is their devotion to our lady. Each have a charism that has been given by the Holy spirit and they followed it.

I am sure the same could have been said about Mother Assumpta and the DSMMEs when she first began the foundation. "If she is going to have a dominican community why not remain as part of the NDs" or even the same for the SSEW; but they had a stirring from the Holy Spirit and they listened and followed. I pray that they continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit and may they get many vocations.

sorry for the lack of capitalization and spelling errors but my finger is sprained and typing hurts a bit.

WOW! I had no idea from their site. That's awful. Prayers they return to the Church!

Sorry about promoting an order not in union with the Church, guys. I had no idea.

Beautiful habits. Nice to see a new community in a full habit and not use that generic veil that some many new used and established communities have changed to.
