Would This Be Sacrilege Or Am I Being Scrupulous?

I have one that was blessed. Am I permitted to pick off "fuzzies" that cling to it, even though there might be fibers from the actual chotki that come out with it? Just wondering. Thanks!

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I mean, I have had scapulars that just basically fall to pieces being in contact with my skin all the time. Little kids wreck rosaries very frequently too, as a tangled rosary + a little frustrated yanking to untangle it usually equals beads everywhere. As long as you're not meaning to destroy it on purpose with malicious or evil intent it's likely not a big deal.

I suppose someone who is smart can give a final answer on this, but generally if you want to dispose of blessed items in a proper fashion (once damaged or whatever) you can opt to bury them, right?

I think you may be overly concerned. :)

Yeah, this.
Yes, it is an object that has been blessed and set aside for use as a tool which you can employ to get closer to God, and accordingly should be treated with reverence. That said, it is still just an object. Each little fibre was not consecrated when you had it blessed - it's not like the Eucharist where every particle of it, no matter how small, contains the whole Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Use it, wear it, pluck the fuzzies from it, and when it gets beaten up, bury it or burn it and buy a new one.

Thanks![/quote]it is a thing. A thing. An inanimate object. You aren't throwing it on the ground and stomping on it with hatred of God in your heart. :ohno:
