Honestly, I think the "don't talk about it" angle can get somewhat overblown. This is not a private matter ... the people involved on both "sides' have made it very, very public. There are families who don't discuss their various Elephants in the Room, but they have never struck me as particularly healthy. People who are "still trying to find closure or still confused" may actually want to talk about it and the whole "this matter is closed" shtick is not very supportive. I agree there is a fine line in all of this. It can get unsavory and toxic fast. I guess I'm just in general against there being "taboo" subjects in our phamily.

It's tough. I'm sure there are lots of people who are confused and hurt by this whole series of events.

Keep in mind a few things: this is an ordained priest about whom we are talking. Catholics are going to be extremely cautious about potentially saying negative things about him.

But you bring up a good point: talking about these things--especially if they are bothering you--is a good thing. Pretending like nothing is wrong is almost always a bad idea. However, an internet forum is not an appropriate place to have this discussion--or a lot of discussions. If it's bothering you (not saying it's bothering you specifically), talk to a friend. PM someone. Talk to a priest. talk about it on the Q&A forum. Bringing it up here has the potential to spark a debate that ends up getting trolled into the netherregions of the internet.

I agree that it should not be a taboo subject. Catholics are generally encouraged to discuss their questions about the faith.

this whole thing makes me reflect more on my own faults, and how easy it is to fall into sinfulness...

Fr. Corapi is a human being, he's just like one of us. The fact that he grew so close to the Lord and was His Instrument for so long and yet fell into this kind of trouble, doesn't really surpirse me. What surprises me is his response and other Catholics reactions to it. He's our brother and he desperately needs our prayers. We all need to remain diligent in our prayer life, diligent in our spiritual exercises, we need to work each day at a time to make our wills conform to God's will. When we become lax, or decide we will sin, our relationship with God is wounded, but so is the Church. Fr. Corapi's fall from grace is not only his own, but it has effected us all in some way... so it is with each of our sins. They have a rippling affect in the Church...

God also needs us to do all we can to live our Catholic beliefs, faithfully everyday. I'm reminded that Jesus told his apostles, "The devil wants to sift you like wheat!" and another time when the Apostles asked Jesus, "Who can be saved?" and Jesus' response was, "For men it is impossible, but not for God." We need to be aware always that the devil roams about the world seeking the ruin of souls. None of us are immune to the wiles of the devil. But only with God's help, we can persevere.

In my experience it is not healthy. When it comes down to it, it always come down to choosing sides to be obedient or disobedient to the Church. In other words there's nothing left to talk about.

The ones who want to "talk about it" are usually the ones insulting the Church, calling the Bishops corrupt and ppl have already made up their mind.

There are some things that the Mother Church knows best about. Everything has already been decided and not up for discussion. To do otherwise will only provide more scandal than what has already occurred.

Yes. This whole thing is very sad. I don't see the point of people far removed from the situation publicly blathering about it.

Sorry guys, i didn't realize this was posted earlier. Like many others I'm a believer in the "let's talk about the bad" rather than "lets hide it under the rug."

Sorry if I caused any offense
