I've been feeling homesick for family today because my cousin "twin" is getting married today and we can't be there. So this evening my husband tells me he thinks we're going to have to move back to the US in Oct/Nov and I don't want to leave England. I know I can't have it both ways, and seeing family is more important than where I live, but I seriously love living in England. I even love the NHS. And the food! Where, oh where, will I get Red Leicester in the US?! Ugh, I just needed to whinge a bit.

Interesting story... I just got back from So Cal. I'm from there and lived 36 years of my life there. But upon landing back at the Pittsburgh airport, I felt a feeling like I was home; even though all my family is in CA and AZ.

I was somewhat confused by the feeling, and still am in some respects...Sometimes we just gotta go where He puts us.

Prayers, AC...

Before you leave England, make a connection with an English business-person. When you get back to the States, set up a little import business. Import Red Leicester. And all other things English you will miss. Sell what you don't consume.

Needs satisfied, and perhaps a little income on the side!

I know exactly what you mean, MIKolbe. That's how I feel about England - it's home. When I came to Liverpool, I'd not been in England for 5 years, but it was like coming home. I almost never get homesick here, because I just love it.

Red - our visas run out in January, and it seems silly to stay until then when it's just going to cost us more. So it looks like we'll be moving back in a couple of months, then Bart will come back for his viva, then stay in the US until he gets hired. He's still going to apply for jobs in England, so it may be that we could come back after that, it's just not looking like he'll get hired for this year because most of the posts want him to have had his viva first.

At Mass this morning, Fr Cassian mentioned in his homily that we have to let go of our plans/ideas, that it may not work out the way we'd thought or wanted, but that God has a way of making things work out even better. Think God's trying to tell me something?

Oh, and Luigi, I can make a whole list of things I'm going to miss, food-wise. I'll have to bring some blackcurrant jam back with me, most definitely.

USAirways - we'll have to meet up when I get to JAX, k?

Oh, and Red, one of the places Bart's applied to is Cork. We've not heard back, but if he gets it, you'd better take that trip to Ireland so I can buy you a whiskey.

But let's think of the positives:
-I'll get to see my siblings & cousins, whom I've not seen in over 2 years
-taco (amazingly good) Bell
-inexpensive sea food
-um, I'll get to drive?
-I'll get to see my BFF's baby, who is due in February

I'm making a point of taking the kids to see misereremi before we have to go, especially since she's Charlotte's godmother.

\There's also a store called British Isles in Houston you can order from. They have EVERYTHING and whenever I visit family there, we go. There's tea, candy, odd British food, tea pots (probably 200!) tea cups, coffee cups, t shirts. All imported from England.

If you can make it down to Gainesville, it's a deal.

:like:

Now I'm looking up info for shipping our cats back to the US. :sigh: Thankfully my parents are cool with us crashing there for a few months if needed, but I hope the cats do OK travelling back, and then being around my mom's cat.

Very selfishly, I am sorry you are moving as I had hoped to arrange to meet you in 'real life' next time Im in the north-west, but I wish you well and if there is anything I can help with, do let me know (my best friend lives in St Helens, as do a good number of friends).
