They evacuated all the Jersey Shore towns. All the roads are outbound only, including the bridges. Apparently if you choose to stay, 911 won't come and help you if you're in trouble. :| Serious business.

Fortunately I live about 45 minutes inland, so I don't have to worry about that ... but one aunt lives on the Chesapeake in Maryland, and another lives right on a river north of me.

At my house, the major concern is loss of power and what will happen to the trees. My mom is a school bus driver and has been put on call to help with evacuations if they become necessary.

I have a book light and lots of snacks. I'll be OK. :hehe:

People were evacuated to Rowan ... I'm outside of the evac. area. I did have another person at the house until she decided to stay somewhere else (they're going to have a vigil prayer tonight). Me ... I'm staying put now!!!

On a lighter note, I had to hold back a chuckle when I saw "Hurricane Irene....Started by Rachel" in the topic list.

So this must be how preposterous it looks when we get excited over a little snow. Interesting.

I am totally with you! Its on the flip side now! I've been pretty nice too with all this "hurricanes are new for us" business though. :saint2:

We made it through Irene here in MD/DC. No serious problems. Unfortunately through, there have been storm related deaths in VA.

Almost ... almost ... almost. My condo ... almost ... got hit with a falling tree limb (a big branch ... in the pics almost looks like a tree in and of itself). It missed by maybe a feet or two.

The really, really, really neat thing: the spanish speaking priest in atlantic city sent a text message on Sunday at about 3pm saying "7pm spanish Mass in the Cafeteria" (there's a 6pm english Mass in the Church and a Vietnamese Mass at 8pm).

We got a full crowd. The priest was 100% elated -- he was like "I'm sure all of you felt like I did. I needed to celebrate Mass with everyone. Even though I did celebrate a private Mass today with a few people its not the same. And if you are here it is because it is important to each of you."

We were all thankful and very elated that we were in Atlantic City celebrating Mass after Hurricane Irene. All the billboards had been blown down. But -- for the most part everything was ok (with the exception of some people who lost power, some flooding, but nothing super catastrophic).

I sure had a Mass said in thanksgiving for favors received. My guardian angel made sure to protect my condo that's for sure.
