MargaretTeresa
My great aunt looks like she's going to miss the worst of it (she's in Goose Creek, SC), but I have cousins in NC. Yikes!

Brother Adam
If anyone needs a place to stay we have a finished basement you could stay in, we'll feed ya' too, but you have to travel all the way to MI.
LaPetiteSoeur
My friend's going to school in NYC, so I'm going to be calling/texting/freaking out/ praying to/for her. I'm also really worried about my home parish; the windows aren't in great shape, so I pray they don't break or fall in, as they are 130 years old. MissyP89
They evacuated all the Jersey Shore towns. All the roads are outbound only, including the bridges. Apparently if you choose to stay, 911 won't come and help you if you're in trouble. Serious business. Fortunately I live about 45 minutes inland, so I don't have to worry about that ... but one aunt lives on the Chesapeake in Maryland, and another lives right on a river north of me. At my house, the major concern is loss of power and what will happen to the trees. My mom is a school bus driver and has been put on call to help with evacuations if they become necessary. I have a book light and lots of snacks. I'll be OK. Edited August 26, 2011 by MissyP89
Brother Adam
They say that, but they will come unless there is no possible way to attempt a rescue.
Norseman82
On a lighter note, I had to hold back a chuckle when I saw "Hurricane Irene....Started by Rachel" in the topic list.

I just have 'recommended evacuation, as I am like...4 miles from the beach. Ocean City, Md has had mandatory evacuation since 5pm. The only people that are allowed back in the city are the people working with my husband. He's gotta go fix things (power, cable, etc.) as soon as it's over. :/
Seven77
Go home Irene, you're nasty and mean... something, something... Here, in inland Maryland, we are to brace ourselves against possible outages, very heavy rainfall, and high winds… I know that the governor declared state of emergency because of Ocean City but it is still scary for us. I depend on power to live--- I use portable and stationary (at night) ventilators that assist my breathing and they need to be charged every night, also I depend on home health nurses ( personal aides who are nurses)… flooding means they won't be able to come to the house. I live with my parents and have a neighbor next door who is a nurse so that is good. Earlier this week we had an earthquake and now we expect a hurricane… please pray for us here in the Washington, DC area and all affected areas.
