Did You Feel It?

I felt it here in Ellicott City, MD. I was sitting at my computer, writing out an e-mail, and it began to shake a bit. I thought it was from the construction of our new religious ed building next door. But then it became more and more intense.

I definitely didn’t panic. But had a sort of odd reflection where I was like, “Hm. I guess this is an earthquake. Interesting.” *look around curiously* “I guess I’ll stand in the doorway? That’s somewhat safe, right?”

Did you feel it? What was your reaction? Where were you?

For those who didn't feel it or haven't heard: 5.8 or 5.9 earthquake centered in VA, felt as far away as New York!

Just heard from my brother and his family, they are very near the epicenter in VA, they are all safe. Thank God.

I have friends from NJ to NC who are all saying they felt it.

I'd really like there to be cell service... I want to make sure the sisters are okay. They were further down, in DC.

I was watching television/online/doing summer schoolwork (multitasking!). I'm in Virginia. Something cardboard fell off my television and a metal desk organizer I have fell, and it took me that long to think "Oh. Must be an earthquake." I grabbed my Mary statue that was looking rather precarious and just sat there because I had NO IDEA what to do.

Good thing my violin wall stand is apparently extremely sturdy...

I was unpacking in my dorm and I was perfectly fine. As soon as I left, everyone was talking about it. I don't know how or when it happened or if it even happened here. I certainly didn't feel it if it hit here.

Got a hold of the sisters- they're fine. The house may have some damage, though.

Glad they are okay, buildings can be repaired.

I didn't know about it until I saw Facebook erupt and got an email from my campus police notifying people of what happened. Apparently there were even tremors out here in Ohio! I just wish I would have noticed - the construction across the street has been making the whole building rattle for a few days now. :)

I hope the damage isn't extensive. Or expensive.

Definitely - we're on a military base so after I figured out it wasn't a very strong gust of wind shaking the house, I thought it might be an attack of some sort, like a bomb or something. Grabbed my little baby and headed out the front door where I met all my neighbors standing in the street. The buildings were evacuated here, but no damage as far as I know. Totally crazy, I've never experienced an earthquake before!

Oh, and I'm in MD, about an hour from DC.
