Besides, these days whenever most people think of the Pope now one of the first things they think of besides the Pope himself is the Popemobile. (reference [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedia_gestatoria"]Wikipedia[/url]) The Popemobile raises him up to be able to be seen by the faithful without making him look arrogant in the eyes of critics. There are many other chances for him to be martyred if that was to happen. In JPII's pontificate, there were several international trips that he was strongly encouraged to wear a bulletproof vest; many times he refused, saying that he should not live in fear.
