Holy Water

This might be a silly question, but I have been given an awful lot of holy water recently (a number of friends have been to Lourdes) and I am trying to use it to bless myself throughout the day. However it is in little glass bottles with small caps and not only do I keep forgetting, but its also not easy to get it on my finger. If I want to have it open for when I go in and out of my room, does it need to be in a specific stoop, or can I use any suitable container so long as I get it blessed???

So no one ever answered my burning question about Holy Water on the Q&A, so I'mma hijack this quick. How come we can eat blessed salt but nobody drinks holy water?

Really? Cool, thanks!

Yes I just looked to see if that had been answered. I'd be interested too.

I was given Holy Water from the Poor Clares in old (clean) pop bottles. I have no idea if the bottles had been blessed or anything, but it was definitely not any special container.
Actually, after Easter, one year, the Church was giving the Holy Water out in little bottles that my mom said were normally used at the hospital for breastmilk storage. :idontknow: Again, I don't know if the containers had been blessed at all. But, again, no special container.

I actually have heard of people drinking Holy Water. I don't know of any sort of official teaching on it, though, so I don't know if it's acceptable, or why they do it.

P.S. I don't recommend the breastmilk storage containers, though. I don't know why, but OH MY GOODNESS DID THE WATER IN THOSE SMELL! I had to get rid of it, because just using it made me gag. I don't know if they weren't cleaned well or what, but :x

I have a little holy water font that I bought for $3 at a Catholic goods store. It's plastic and has an image of the Sacred Heart on it. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been blessed - at least, I've never had it blessed. It's a lot easier to use than unscrewing my plastic holy water bottle to dip my finger in it. I've seen some very nice, inexpensive fonts for home use on eBay and Catholic stores online.

There are some really nice, inexpensive fonts here:

If you are worried about putting a nail in the wall to hang the font up, you can use a plastic wall hanger with an adhesive backing, or get a standing font. I've also seen people use a little glass bowl, which is what we use in the chapel at the retreats with the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal. Something like a little glass custard cup would be perfect for personal use:

We have some at home that are made by Pyrex.

Thanks. I might have a look on ebay. Awful though it sounds, plastic would be good as there is already a velcro patch on the wall (from before me) and I could hang it on there.

I have always preferred glass over plastic. At Church, we have brass water fonts, but they are too expensive for home use. One thing I've considered is getting a little Pyrex bowl with a lid so no dust gets into the water. Dust makes water look icky. :x

Looks-wise I'd like glass, but I'm thinking weight

Yeah, glass might not hold up on a Velcro hanger.
