MissScripture
I kind of lost the desire to read, even when I could. I just wanted to do something mindless, then. lol But I'm thinking it might be time to get back into reading. I used to be one of those people who would get like 30 books from the library and read them all by the time they were due.

After a while, though, the desire regenerates itself. You get tired of mindless stuff (or non-story stuff)...
Papist
The Robe by Lloyd Douglas Keys to the Kingdom by A.J. Cronin The Guillotine and the Cross by Warren H. Carroll Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor The Third Man by Graham Greene Billy Budd by Herman Melville The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk . Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton is an excellent book. However, don't bother with The Lost World. It is a sequel to the movie, not book. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
Several people have mentioned Dostevsky. However, his best book in my opinion is Brothers Karamazov. It is my favorite work of literature and deals with human suffering, atheism, and faith. It is spectacular and truly one of the all time literary greats. The Ender's series is good as are many of the other books posted on here, but if you are looking for not just a story that will thrill you but also a substantive story that will make you think and expand your horizons, depicts the human condition highly accurately, and is a story one can dive into (which having read the books you have most recently read, I think you are) then the Brothers Karamazov is the book that you should start with. It will strengthen your faith, help you to understand suffering better, and offer you insights on how to be a better human being all while telling an engaging story.
