Lil, I want to say this to you in a spirit of all seriousness, and I really hope that you take this to heart.

If you feel that you need to make up a completely ludicrous story about concussions and cow theft and making out with farm boys in order to "fit in" anywhere, then I think you should take a moment and reevaluate. First, why do you think such a story would make you fit in? Do you think you need preposterous stories to make yourself somehow more dynamic to other people, or do you think that having a thread that everyone comments on somehow makes you "popular"? Why do you feel you need that?

Listen, I was away from Phatmass for roughly 9 months. There have been loads of new people to come and go during that time. After coming back to read and post, believe me, after 5 minutes I became more than aware of you. ANYONE who spends more than 5 minutes here is aware of your presence. You are a unique person with individual talents and gifts, just like any child of God. You obviously have a bubbly personality and a very fun-loving attitude. Good for you, the world needs more such people. However, trying to invent some reasons for people to notice you are not only unnecessary, they work against you.

I offer you this advice and I hope that you listen, because it will serve you well in all aspects of your life. Be yourself. Don't spout bizarre tales that have no truth to them because of some desire to fit somewhere. People in this life will like you or not. That is simple truth. You need to be secure enough in yourself and your own positive attributes. Offer constructive comments. Have discussions with people. You know the reason that people are always making the 10 year-old comments to you? Partly because you continually bring it up. It's even your signature, for pete's sake. Keep putting something in front of people and chances are that is what they will comment on. I saw you had posted in the thread about stuff people hate, and literally, I thought to myself "it's probably a comment about people saying she is 10" and sure enough, it was. That doesn't make you look cute or funny, it makes you appear to be someone with a loud voice and little substance.

I believe that D_t_A had previously tried to give you similar such advice gently but you don't seem to have given it much credence. There is a difference between altering your natural bubbly persona and trying to be bubbly with substance. By posting that ridiculous cow story you did exactly what you claimed previously that you did not want to do...change yourself in order to fit someone else's perceptions of you. The only problem is that that post did not improve your appeal to anyone. If anything, I think it made you appear silly. Not silly as in amusing, but silly as in someone who acts without thought.

You obviously are a very fun girl with a lot of exuberance and spirit. Those are all great things. Just be yourself, without trying to amplify your exuberance in an artificial way. People like to laugh; people generally do not like to be shouted at, even if the shouting is supposed to be funny. Think about that. Just be you, and people will like you or not. We ultimately can't control how people feel about us. But if you are anyone else OTHER than you, you will never know if people like the real you or not.

True originality involves self-confidence. Be confident in yourself, and you will never have a reason to second-guess.

God Bless you.

Not that I disagree with any of this, but I believe this should have been a personal message.

I would have sent it thus, but this is a conversation which has been had publicly previously. My hope was that others who have offered the same advice would gently encourage.

Regardless of which method of relaying the message is correct or not; I think it is truly wonderful that even in the lame board, lil' mon has 2 upstanding catholic women who care for her so much as to offer this advise.

Lil' mon, you should count yourself lucky to have such wonderful people who really care about you.

Thank you Jason. My only intention in posting this was that other people who sincerely care for Lil would give her encouragement.

I see. I pray this is productive.

Lil'Monster,
You fit it a long time ago. MT listed many beautiful attributes you possess, which make you who you are. Make them stronger. God bless you!

As my old pastor would say, if you don't fit in here, you don't fit anywhere.

AND YOU HAVE ALWAYS FIT IN. No more silly stories, ma dear. No more.

Edit: Forgot an important word.

MT, what a well thought out and kindly worded post. I think we all agree that Lil Mon makes a welcome and much needed addition to the Pham. We all can use more joy, silliness, and laughter in our lives!

In the words of Lawrence the Telecommunications Technician: I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.
