I have this strange desire to visit Vietnam. I don't even think I'd like Vietnamese food, but Africa and Vietnam are the two places I'd visit if I could. Why Vietnam and not China or Japan? I have no idea. Vietnam just seems like my kinda country.

I had a professor at my last school who went there once when he worked with the United States Institute of Peace. He was Navy Reserve and his boss was a Marine at one point. They were walking through the city surrounding their hotel before a meeting and had all sorts of kids running around smiling at them while wearing Nike tee-shirts. A couple of the kids had American flags on their clothes. They never once faced any discrimination over the Vietnam War while they were there, even though his boss served in it.

Indeed. Little dusty-winged terrors.

So I ended up getting (in English) grilled chicken and vermicelli with pickled veggies, scallions, peanuts and some sauce that was oddly tasty.

And a vanilla bubble tea, no tapioca.

All good. I do think I prefer the old reliable Chinese though. Or sushi.

:ohno: Never come to the home of one girl in my cohort then. Her fiancee allows guests to have beer in their home (they're Muslim) just to try and keep people from running from the table over her love of spices.

So you hate me ?

Vietnamese food isn't spicy unless you add pepper sauce. I prefer Sriracha.

None of this was spicy at all. Not even a little. :) (Though I did momentarily consider curry chicken...I've grown to be more adventurous with tolerating heat, but I didn't want to get that only to hate it.)
