MissyP89
So I'm going out tomorrow night, and my friend wants to go to a Vietnamese place. She says it's amesome, and I trust her, but I've never had Vietnamese food before. What's it like? What's good? I've heard of pho but I have this thing against soup in the summertime. FWIW, I hate lettuce and overly spicy things, but I do really like Chinese. So what should I try?
she_who_is_not
You might want to give Pho a shot. It is more noodley than soupy.
MIKolbe
Gỏi cuốn - like a spring roll... mucho bueno I would do the pho regardless... Vietnamese food can be spicy, but it's like a flavorful spicy... like thai, but which a twist. Bánh tằm cà ri is my favorite. I can't pronounce it..LOL!! I just look for it on the menu and point to it. it is a chicken curry-ish dish oh some cool noodles, so it can be spicy..very spicy..but oh.so.good. You can ask them to tame the spicy down too... have fun!!
Amppax
I love thai food, and if vietnamese is anything like it, should be delicious. Anything like a spring roll is good in my book, so I second MIkolbe's suggestion.
Seven77
Pho is good. More noodley, yes. Banh Mi sandwiches are good too
I love thai food, and if vietnamese is anything like it, should be delicious. BG45
Nicknamed Pho at my old church, I endorse Pho. It was good, I had it at a conference in Boston once.
CatherineM
We had pho on Sunday. We like the kind that has tendon, tripe, meatballs, and flank steak in it. The tendon is really good, the tripe is just okay. We also like the salad rolls. It's soft rice paper rolled around vermicelli noodles, lettuce and either beef or shrimp or both. It's not fried, so only about 80 calories.
Adrestia
Now I want Vietnamese for lunch. I always go for the vermicelli (noodles) with grilled chicken.

Adrestia
Thanks to you I ordered Vietnamese take out from Pho 18 for lunch. It was great. Now I've got the 'itis and need a nap; and, therefore, will have a long night in the lab.
Era Might
I have this strange desire to visit Vietnam. I don't even think I'd like Vietnamese food, but Africa and Vietnam are the two places I'd visit if I could. Why Vietnam and not China or Japan? I have no idea. Vietnam just seems like my kinda country. Edited August 9, 2011 by Era Might
Adrestia
Why do so many people list Africa with countries? I never see "I'd love to visit Europe, Senegal and Eritrea." or "Kenya, Nigeria and Asia are on my bucket list." It's just looks weird to me. Those examples you listed don't look bizarre to me.
Because there's no particular African country I want to visit...I wouldn't even know anything about individual countries to single one out, except Egypt. Actually, Egypt would be cool, but I'd rather go to South Africa (the region, not the country). I want to see lions and zebras, I don't particularly care which country it's in.
