That would be way razzle dazzle.

When you receive your religious name, is it awkward for your parents to start calling you that on family visits??

I can't answer because I've never entered religious life. Hopefully, I'll know soon enough. :hehe2:

I suppose it is not the best question to ask people dreaming up their religious name pre-convent!! :P

I wish I could ask my friend, Sr. Mary Elizabeth, what it was like for her parents to see her after she was clothed for the first time. She just became a novice again and is starting over, but her parents visited her a few months after she received the habit.

I can imagine that it would be a little strange at first, but they would probably grow into it. I know my mom and dad will probably struggle with it since I'm nearly 29 years old so it's hard to break 29 years of calling me the same name all the time. :hehe2:

My parents addressed my mail with my religious name - but when we were actually together they called me by my nickname growing up. I actually kind of liked it that way.

I know a young sister and her parents refer to her as her religious name, Idk what they call her in person, though.

In the order I am discerning with, I met one Sister who took a religious name, but they also referred to her by her baptismal name. I guess it's OK considering that some of them keep their baptismal name and just add "Sr." to it. :)

Okay, so I have finally figured out which name I would like. I was reading The Story of a Soul today and got inspired. I always thought about how there has yet to be a Saint Miles in the Church, but when I started discerning I thought everyone changed their name, so I gave up on that dream. However, I realized you can keep your name, so I decided I would like my Religious name to be Brother Miles of the Infant Jesus. Obviously it was inspired by Saint Therese.
