southern california guy
Okay so I bought five plumeria -- for five dollars apiece. They were just these "twigs" that I poked into pots and watered. Now they are all popping out with leaves. And they're big green leaves! I can't wait until they start to flower!! I've got five different colors of flowers! Some people grow them as big as trees here. I never really understood the appeal until I saw my seemingly dead twigs start to grow leaves. It makes me feel like I have a green thumb or something. I'm going to have to plant them under some palm trees that I've got growing on a steep hillside next to my house! Maybe I'll even join the plumeria society down here in Southern California. Do any of you guys grow plumeria?
yes. just water it, the drought might do it in. it also won't survive nasty bay backwash storm surge flood muck.
IgnatiusofLoyola
I'd forgotten about plumeria. I love them--they smell so good! Once I went to Hawaii and bought a plumeria lei at the airport on my way home just so I could smell the flowers for the entire 9-hour flight back to Chicago. The smell was so strong, I expected the flight attendant to ask me to take off the lei and put it in the luggage compartment because someone around me didn't want to smell plumeria for 9 hours. But, no one complained and the smell made me happy. By the time I got to Chicago the flowers were wilting badly but they STILL smelled good. Ahhhhh!
Adrestia is right. But it's actually reasonably drought tolerant as well. But most people in hot places water them daily. During the winter when they're deciduous they don't need much water at all. And they don't take the cold very well but you can bring them inside when they're deciduous. And they're fairly inexpensive. I've bought cuttings for five dollars each. And I can even send you some cuttings when my plants get bigger. I'm going to prune mine so that they get a little bushier.
