You're right. Gotta protect the ego at all costs. I HAVE NEVER MADE A MISTAKE

Yeah. I'll never admit I made a mistake.

The article was definitely flawed in not being absolutely clear that he did not interview the SEALs. I agree with that and that's why I posted the article pointing out the problems with the author and the article. Ice wanted to suggest that the article is basically fiction. I think that's way too far. If the evidence comes out to suggest that I'll be happy to admit it. Right now I just think that's too far and there are good reasons for supposing that the article itself is sound. Two New Yorker fact checkers interviewed his sources and that makes me feel pretty comfortable that the story can be trusted. The only criticism of the article that I have seen is that the author should have been clear that he never interviewed the SEALs. That's a perfectly valid but pretty mild criticism considering, as far as I know, he never claimed that he interviewed any SEALs.

I don't think it's total fiction, but I think he infused too much of his artistic license for me to maintain interest. He focuses on details that, while they breathe life into the text and paint a more vivid picture, seem like a mix of confabulation and possible facts that are entertaining but ultimately irrelevant.

He's a talented writer and I get what he was trying to do; he was merely taking what he knew about the events (which is more than the average Amurrican) and infusing into them his own creative style to fill in the missing gaps. The end result is something that lands in between fact and fabrication that seems to be more intent on entertaining than informing.

Just my 2 cents. I'd like to know what happened that day, but I doubt that I will ever know with any type of certainty how things went down. Of course imagining about what could of happened and reading/hearing/seeing other people's renditions, all varying in accuracy, has it's own morbid artistic value and intrigue but at the end of the day it doesn't satisfy my desire to know what happened. It merely provides some entertainment and conversation every now and then.
