Orthadox Or Liberal

So the liberals seems to be changing the Catholic Church. I mean it's to the point were they kick out seminarians who are orthadox. I mean grant it being orthadox means following the teachings of the catholic church to the point. No if ands or buts about it. I mean honestly so many people take sin so lightly and are offended by getting long penances I mean I am so up for a well deserved penance. So I'm sorry if I offended anyone I had to vent and just wanted your imput.

Liberals have been trying to change the church since it started. The gates are still holding up...

i think we should use the term orthodox and progressive....some church teachings are liberal....work for peace and justice, economic polict etc....liberal is a political term...the church exists outside of political agendas but only the gospel

Ash Wednesday

I agree with friarmatt -- there is "orthodox" and "heterodox"

Ideally "liberal" and "conservative" fit within the "orthodox" frame in terms of how doctrine is applied to living the faith... if that makes any sense. Everything else that isn't faithful to the church or obedient is heterodox.

Okay, maybe I'm just talking in circles!!!

I'm orthodox in that I am faithful to the magesterium.

I would consider myself a moderate Catholic (of course within the definition of orthodoxy...) Some aspects of liberalism I find flaky and wishy washy, and some aspects of conservatism I find stuffy and scrupulous.

If you all really want to get technical, Liberal means somehting vastly different if you are talking about people in the Church, politics, or Cardinal Newman . . .

The oppostite of orthodox is heterodox

The opposite of Conservative is progressive

the opposite of Liberal is intelligent

See, it's easy. . .

Maybe, maybe. What about FDR, I mean don't take John Kerry (the liar) as an example.

That might have been true a few years ago, but I don't think it is really accurate today. Most of the problem (Arch)dioceses have gotten new bishops who are in line with the Church. A case in point is Archbishop Dolan in Milwaukee. I am familiar with seminarians from over 30 different dioceses and not one has ever been kicked out for being too orthodox. As a matter of fact, fidelity to the Holy Father and the Magisterium is praised. BTW, as most of you know, but for those who don't, I am a seminarian who considers himself VERY conservative liturgically , theologically, and politically.

IG -- I understand your frustrations, though I do think JP2Iloveyou has a good point and it's something that allows us to take heart. I've noticed, too, that in the last few years a lot of the orthodoxy has been springing up, especially in younger Catholics and converts to the faith. I especially love hearing about all the wonderful seminarians on this board who love their faith so much and are good, faithful priests-to-be. :)

It was sneaky . . . lol, cuz it was totally serious up to there!

Honestly, I do not understand the "liberal" mindset. I do not understand why government should be responsible for the poor. I'm responsible for the poor. You're responsible for them. The government, quite frankly screws up their lives.

Growing up I had always associated "liberal" with being negative and homosexuals, but that was just my ultra conservative mother.
