Groo the Wanderer
Figures. Drugs to induce a chemical abortion have no copay. My drugs to keep me awake so I don't take out myself and a family while driving at night have a $125 copay. yay govment. ppfffttt
MissyP89
Because having children is obviously such a severe medical issue that we have to give away the drugs for free to insure it never happens.

StMichael
It is hard to figure out the thinking behind this. There are children who are stricken with life threatening allergies, etc. that need certain medications. These medications all come with a co-pay, some as high $300. But we all need to kick in for those who want to fool around and either prevent a pregnancy or abort one. Just don't get it. This must be a huge constituency or a very vocal one, shouting down the majority, as this seems to be out of bounds of anything our constitution would allow. Then again, all those in DC who have sworn atop a Bible to uphold the Constitution seem intent on destroying it. Very sickening.
mcts
Well dang. If I wanted to take meds that would help me sleep around without getting pregnant, I could get it for free. The meds I use to be able to concentrate enough to work or take notes it class, however, I have to pay 75 dollars a month for.
Exactly. Even Guttmacher's stats show that over half of the women who get abortions were using birth control, if I remember correctly. I didn't even have this in mind when I was writing yesterday, but seems the timing was apt. The anxiety medication costs $5. My asthma medication, the biggest cost, is $50 so I can breathe. But, yeah, let's make it so the people have freedom to sleep around without the consequences and not have to pay anything. Cherie
This makes me so angry. Making it free isn't going to do a DARN thing about "drastically reducing the number of abortions" (as Jemhu Greene stated on a Fox News debate earlier today). As pointed out, most of these unplanned pregnancies are in women who were on birth control already. They just forget to take their pill ... so making it FREE (while right now it's still a very CHEAP medication) is somehow magically going to make them remember to take their pills? Stupidity. Absolute and utter stupidity. That debate on Fox News made me LIVID. Jemhu Greene, in defense of this law, basically said, "Most Catholic women are using birth control ... so don't throw your outdated idealism at me." You know what? It's true, most Catholic women are. And it's WRONG. THE CHURCH CATEGORICALLY CONDEMNS ARTIFICIAL BIRTH CONTROL! Therefore, absolutely NO CATHOLIC WOMAN should be using it!!!!!!!!!! (And if Catholics are on it for health reasons, btw, which isn't sinful, it's not considered "birth control", it's considered "medication to help with [insert ailment here]" ... though I'd strongly suggest asking a second opinion, because there are other medications that could work better and have safer side effects. It's rare that birth control is absolutely medically necessary to treat a non-birth-control related ailment.) Ugh this makes me so mad. Nowadays it's the "weird," "unhealthy" thing to save sex for marriage. How twisted. We drastically need to change society's outlook on that - look at the stats for STDs, psychological/emotional harm from sleeping around, divorce rates for those who cohabitate ... and people think it's "weird" to save sex for marriage?!?! A lot of us blame the sexual revolution -- I blame artificial contraception. The sexual revolution wouldn't have happened without contraception, and that's the truth. sixpence
this came up with a few lady friends at lab... of course the other two were agnostic ecology dept feminist liberal types.. and then me.. and I absolutely failed at defending the Church's stance... cause I'm a freaking coward sometimes... ...at least I could have helped them understand our views better. *sigh* ... praying that I'll have more guts next time it comes up... thessalonian
Well it sounds like oboma is going to force insurance companies to pay the complete cost of contraceptives. Unbelievable. http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/08/01/free.birth.control/index.html?iref=allsearch What is even more unbelievable are the rationalizations of the posters below the artice. Just incredible the worldly thinking. "None seek God, no not one".
thessalonian
What floors me in the discussion is that people see children only as a burden on the economy. They should look at Japan which now pays people to have babies, 3400 dollars. Economies cant function well without a young workforce.

fides' Jack
Sometimes Obama can be very stupid. If I were an insurance company, I would not comply. Nor would I give any reimbursement for birth control.
