I will be interested to hear how things are happening at my parents' parish when they go next weekend (they were at ours this weekend), because I could see their priest trying that...although, they also have a younger priest who is super excited about it, so that has to make life interesting at the parish...

Our priest is very popular (he is the only one for four parishes) so the parishioners will all just follow his lead. If he laughs at the changes, they will too. I think it's sad because he isn't helping to heal the divisions in the Church by insisting on doing things his way. It might just be laziness, I don't know, but if he would lead, they would follow. And since this parish has overheads, we could all just respond appropriately if he would tell us to do so and they would put up the correct responses. It's not like it's rocket science or anything. I mean, at the smaller parishes, where they have to use booklets, I canalmost understand, but there really isn't reason NOT to do it at this church.

I was giddy like a little kid on Christmas day!!!

I played the new Mass parts, the music thundered so loud, the stained glass windows shook... the congregation loooooved our choir... i'm sure its a nice change from the teenage garage rock band that used to play at those Masses... :smile2:

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

I went pretty well here. Our Deacon butchered the first "And with your spirit", but other than that everything went better than I had expected. My favorite parts were the "It is right and just." and "...which will be given up for you and for many." I am so proud of my fellow parishioners. Our pastor is pretty modernist (another story), but he was ready for the changes even though he didn't like them.

We did pretty well. I forgot the "any with your spirit" in the beginning, but other than that, it was fine! The pastor, an older priest, also had some trouble, just like the congregation (so we weren't alone!)

My mother still doesn't like "consubstantial" and the "chalice" bit is strange for me, but I'm sure in two years it will be just like this was the translation all along.

i was happy because, finally , my parish priest is saying the consecration correctly instead of adding his own "for all men and women" :x

I'm glad for the changes, but since I rarely go to english Mass it'll be interesting to say the least.

The *one* time I do go is of course this past weekend -- I'm glad I wasn't the only one goofing up.

I did not like the Mass of Creation (I think that's the one) setting changes. May as well have shelved it. It just sounds too off.

My dad kept forgetting the "and with your spirit" at the sing of peace I wished to him, "Don't worry they are going to change it again in forty years anyway." :P I like the new changes. :)

I'm hoping to go to morning mass on Thursday, I haven't been to one in a while, so if I mess up it'll REALLY stand out among the 10 other ppl there ... :hehe2:

We don't have weekday Masses this week (our priest lives in another parish every other week) and I wonder how the lay led liturgy will go - will they do the new or the old? I can't go because I'm doing shift work but it would be interesting to see how the Communion Service is run.

All went well at the parish I visited -- the celebrant walked us all through it and joked as 75% of the parish missed the first "and with your spirit," half at the second, and then the majority got the final blessing right.

I LOVE the Confiteor. The new creed is pretty razzle dazzle, too.

Two things I didn't like: "It is right and just." and in the priest's part, after the Our Father, he no longer says "...Protect us from all anxiety." As someone who struggled with anxiety attacks and still has them now and then, hearing that in the Mass was so comforting to me. The new translation references disasters at that part.

Yes, I agree -- I was in Clayton and they used that setting. Felt like they were cramming the new words into the old melody. It's just clumsy. I believe the one at my home parish is called Mass of Christ the Savior, and it's not so bad ... even if it is Dan Schutte. ;) At least I don't feel like I'm on a pirate ship now.

Anyone know why the Nicene creed is changed to "incarnate" but the Apostle's creed remains "born?"

And the settings for our diocese are chant. The priest said the Bishop told them to start out with everyone using chant, so that it is the same everywhere to start with. In January, they can start changing it. I doubt our parish will.

I "slipped into old habits" a few times.

Our local newspaper covered the subject, including Cardinal George admitting a few difficulties:
