OnlySunshine
Our parish choir director has been teaching the whole congregation before Mass how to sing the new prayers. The Great Amen is pretty easy, but the Holy, Holy, Holy is a little difficult. We haven't been taught the Gloria translation yet, though, from the looks of it, I think it's going to be the most difficult. I'm so used to the current translation that remembering to change the verses is going to be a chore and a half. When you memorized something after 28+ years of being a Catholic, the change up is rough!
Well, today, the choir director started teaching us the new Gloria. I was right about it being confusing, but not in the way I expected. In the little pew booklet, there was 4 different Gloria's! She didn't give a page number, so I was flipping back and forth because the notes didn't seem to match up. Hopefully, it will become easier over time.
I thought I would hate it because I listened to the new translation on YouTube and it just sounded rather plain, but our parish's choir director has chosen a very nice setting and it sounds much better than I thought it would. It's more pleasing to the ear than the one I listened to, which, to be frank, sounded like cows mooing in a field.
MIKolbe
I like what the new Gloria says, but the way my parish sings it is just odd....It's as if they took the old 'melody' and tried to make it fit. I don't even know music and I know it doesn't fit. Hopefully someone from Phatmass can compose something for the new Gloria so I can take it to the music director and say, 'yo, this is certified dope stuff man....now go make it do what it do..." BG45
My parish has been making announcements prior to every Mass and we've been slowly transitioning and using the new translation for stuff. We should be 100% ready for changover on time. (Except for the Christmas and Easter Catholics...) I continue to laugh that our liturgy director and priest have been attending conferences for "The Roman Missal Crisis". Archaeology cat
They have Mass cards and blurbs in the bulletin. I admit I've been thrown off because they started using the new translation in Liverpool in October. They'd started using it in other parts of England before then, so when I went to Oxford in September, I used the new translation, then back to the old for a week, then had the new one for a couple of Sundays before coming to the US. Now I'm back to the old translation, but what's more confusing is that the old translation of the Creed in the US & the UK were different, too, so I keep getting tripped up on that. MissScripture
AC, at least when it changes, you'll be like everyone else. Our priest is super excited. He said he first heard it was coming 15 years ago, so he's been waiting since then for all of this.
Groo the Wanderer
getting confoosed. after all the workshops my kiddos have been presenting, i keep trying to say the new words now. last night one of the priests was saying the prayer at the end of the alter server meeting. after he said "the Lord be with you" i loudly replied "and with your spirit" oops my daughter was mortified
Starets
We have been using the solemn tone chants for about a month now. We have the new Missal now. So we are certainly ready for the launch of "Novus Ordo 2.0"

dominicansoul
I'm preparing the music this week to play for the Mass on November 20th, a week before the changes, but the parish priest wants us to play nothing but the new translation stuff
