Marie-Therese
We had a small (3.5-ish I think) earthquake 6 or 7 years ago when I was living in north metro ATL. It was very early in the morning, well before anyone was up and moving, and I can remember lying in my bed feeling the shaking and how disconcerting a sensation that was. I've been in multiple natural disaster situations (hurricanes, way too many tornadoes, and a volcanic eruption) and that little earthquake was by far the weirdest feeling. Totally messes with your equilibrium.
BG45
I am badaz because I survived an earthquake.
One that was nowhere near you. And you were carried down the stairs during it. Not badaz. Meanwhile, I was closer to the epicenter than thou, and I apparently survived it because I never even felt it!
BG45
Never mind, I am informed by a friend that (editing a word for fiddler): You're more badaz because the ground is so afraid of you the quake went around

You know what that makes you, right? A Jackaz.
Not the first time I've been called it. But under US v. Booker I would like to point out that sentencing guidelines for being a jackaz are advisory only. (Unfortunately the same decision renders my "Qualifiers is making me snarky" defense utterly useless. Darn you Supreme Court!) Edit: It also makes me honest that I said it. Edited August 24, 2011 by BG45
missionseeker
Yeah, I really don't think Qualifiers is an adequate defense against blatant insensitivity to someone's disability, especially someone that you claim to be a friend to. And I'm pretty sure that someone here could cite some case as precedence for discrimination against people with disabilities. And yeah, that's what you did, if you are saying that she's not badaz for being carried, especially because you know WHY she was carried. So something like that - especially coming from you - is not only rude, it's just plain insulting. I'm guessing that you meant to be funny, but it really just came off as a lame shot at anything you could in order to say something negative about her. Maybe this seems to harsh to you, but no one messes with my sister.
MissyP89
FWIW, Phil, people in Philly were injured and there was damage to homes because of the quake that was "nowhere near me." I heard on the news that the West Coast and the East Coast are structured differently. Our side of the country is like one solid sheet of rock, which explains how significant shockwaves could be felt between North Carolina and Toronto today. The things you learn after the fact. So yup, still am a badaz. Sorry! Edited August 24, 2011 by MissyP89
BG45
It was meant to be funny Mission, because I wasn't thinking of her disability when I said it. Believe it or not, I try not to define people into boxes. I am deeply offended you would call into question my "claim" to be her friend. I'm sorry Missy, it was insensitive and I wasn't thinking about it. Edit: I hadn't heard about the folks in Philly Missy, thanks for telling me. Horrible that they got injured Last I had heard before studying was "We think there's a 78% chance no one was killed or injured based on the quake magnitude and where it struck". Neat on the tectonic plates, I did not know that at all, nor on the building stuff. Though I guess on the building stuff it makes sense, given we don't really tend to think of earthquakes on this side of the country often. And yes, you are, as always, badaz.
