TeresaBenedicta
I think I'm about due for another trip to the vampires. I'll see what they have near me and hopefully make a donation on Monday. Thanks for the reminder! (I'm surprised they haven't called me...) My O- blood type is always in demand.
Luigi
I haven't given a pint in a long time, but I've donated platelets four times this summer. The pint is definitely a breeze compared to the platelets. Just do it!

LaPetiteSoeur
I'm donating in about a week! My new church is having a blood drive. I just have to start lying down and not get up for a while, as I faint. But everyone who can give blood should. It barely hurts, it's easy, and it can save up to three lives. Also, some blood services will tell you what hospital your blood went to. Last time, mine went to a children's hospital to help preemies. As a preemie myself (long ago), it was kind of a.wesome. MissScripture
I really like watching them stick me with the needle and then watching the blood gush out. Unfortunately, this freaks out a lot of the people who stick you with needles. About the time I was going to start making a point of giving blood, I found out about my heart, and was on blood thinners until this past March. Then in April I got pregnant. Won't be donating blood for a while, yet.

I still think he did it only because I was running that drive... Someone else on my blood drive team's father had never donated blood either. We thought it was funny that they were more nervous than we were. They were troopers, though, and now are regular donors!
CatherineM
In Florida they used to call me when a pregnant woman needed blood. My blood is CMV- and if pregnant women get that, it causes havoc with the baby.
Vincent Vega
I have a thing with needles (yeah yeah, make your jokes), and in the fall semester I continued going back and trying to give but it never really...ahem...worked out. (If they would just let you keep giving after you puke and pass out a little, I wouldn't have any issues.) Maybe I'll try again when school starts. Luigi
Recommendations for people who have "a thing with needles:" 1. Never look at the needle. Once you get on the cot, close your eyes and let the nurse have her way with you - or at least your arm. 2. Take an iPod or something, too, and listen to your favorite tunes (or prayers, or homilies, or Stuart Smalley inspirational talks). The nurse may want to chat you up to calm you down, but just tell her before she starts, "I have a thing with needles, so I'm just going to my happy place now. Do what you need to." 3. Pick a particular intention before you go - offer up your blood donation (plus random puking & passing out) for that particular intention. Keep track of how soon your prayers are answered as a result of your sacrifice. Personally, I've never had any trouble at all donating blood or platelets - I never pass out, I never have bruises, they have have any problem finding a vein or making the insertion, I never throw up. But I really admire people that donate when they do experience those kinds of side effects.

Archaeology cat
Unfortunately I can't give blood. After about half a pint I have to stop before I pass out and/or get sick. I'm not allowed to give blood in the US, actually, because I lived over here during the mad cow stuff. But it is great for people to donate blood when they can. let_go_let_God
I would but I don't know if I can. I was involved in a hunting accident when I was a kid and we don't know if the bird shot still in my foot is lead or steel. If it's lead I can't donate. God bless- LGLG
