You know, I think you're the only one in this thread who can win since you go up barefoot. Heels click and make noise. Flip flops slap and patter. Even my nice sandals make noise. Kids squirm and irritate people. Someone's skirt is too short, someone else looks dowdy or sloppy. I'm a sinner because sometimes I wear slacks instead of a skirt and I forgo the chapel veil. Frankly, from where I'm sitting, something I (or my husband, or my children) do is going to annoy someone else so I'm just going to make sure that I think my family and I look presentable to Our Lord and not give a rip about what anyone else thinks of us. :saint:

Hmmm, I guess the answer if to go naked, and then not breathe once you get there. But make sure you don't pass out because that might distract someone and been seen as attention seeking, especially if they end up calling an ambulance.

Edit to add - naked except for chapel veil :like2:

I might be beating a dead horse in a lame thread, but I guess I just feel like being too nit-picky about attire isn't really beneficial to anyone (we just get cranky and annoyed when we look at other people's deficiencies, and offending someone isn't going to help, either). (YES, obviously we need to make an effort to be presentable, I am not disputing that, but I do take issue with how much we criticize others.) When I go to Mass I see a lot of single young soldiers there, or women with kids in tow who's husbands are deployed. They might just be wearing jeans and some tacky Ed Hardy shirt but knowing the temptations they face day after day in the barracks (porn, booze, just secular life in general) and the fact that they even bother to show up counts in my book. I'm not going to berate some guy for not showing up in shirt and tie, or a mom with 3 toddlers wearing flip flops with her dress because in showing up they've already done one better than the guy who should be filling the empty pew to the right (eta...) because he's hung over, or the other family who just didn't go because they didn't feel like it.

yup...I've done my fair share of complaining about what people wear at Mass, but I always try to remind myself that it is good they are there at all (much like Christmas & Easter Catholics) and to not throw stones because i don't know why it is they are dressed the way they are.

I really liked that first article! I think our parish could use some of the announcements about clothing issues!

Concerning other things, there is a big difference between "sandals" and "flip-flops". Sandals should look nicer, and should not be loud and annoying. Flip-flops are not dressy, and I agree they should not be worn in church, if only because they are loud and obnoxious. (Although I suppose I do understand the daily mass to have a slightly more casual dress code than Sunday mass, just remember, most people like the church to be quiet.)

Do you have a wrap-around skirt? You could wear it over your shorts and still remove it quickly & easily when you start to cheer.

This is a great idea! My sister and I were planning on making some of these to bring with to WYD because they will not let you into some of the churches if you are not dressed correctly. If your shorts are too short, or you have no sleeves, you are in big trouble!

Flip-flops are more quiet than some dress shoes. That must make them okay and dress shoes bad, right?

Well, they really don't look very nice (personal opinion)
Other than that, they are marketed as a casual shoe. I don't know, casual for Mass? I know I wouldn't, but then I never wear jeans to Mass either. So, I guess if they are the quietest/nicest looking pair of shoe you have (this would be sad) I guess.... What would you really want to wear to visit God's house?

~typo :) ~

I wore flip flops to mass today. And God still loves me.

I'm sure He does. I just wonder about all the old people who saw you wearing flip-flops to church! ;)

They're all feeling bad about being so judgmental. ;) besides, I entered through the back and sat up in the choir loft. Few people even saw me.
