Protectionism has never worked in the past and it won't work now. Permit monetary contraction, permit wage rates to fall. It worked in 1920.

I thought it was that mentality that led to where we are now. Our economy would be much better off if we had our own production here, rather than in Asia.

It's all about greed.

^ This. Just this.

Honestly I don't know a lot about politics but if you ask me, not a lot of people in the government seem to care about much except for how much money they're getting, where/who that money's from, and who's getting elected. Granted, there are politicians who do what they're supposed to do in representing the people, but you don't hear about them much. Or at least I don't.

Also, it seems to me that America's economy is in some sort of lose/lose situation. But again, I'm not an expert or anything, so I don't know.

Here is the problem. If one studies Catholic social teaching it does not take one side or the other but gives principles for political leaders to take in to consideration when discussing social policy. However on the democrat side it seems the emphasis is on social programs for those who are already unemployed. We can say "well sure the rich should pay more" but the problem is that wealth is where jobs are created and Catholic social teaching emphasizes employment as the dignity of man. Therefore republicans rightly express concern that if you raise all the revenue from the rich, jobs will decline. Raising taxes when the economy is bad does in fact affect employment negatively. Further Church social doctrine does speak about the need for fiscal responsibility in government welfare programs. No one can possibly claim that what the US is currently doing is fiscally responsible. Therefore I find oboma's speach to be rhetoric that does little to address correct social policy.

For those just joining this insanity, the Republican run house has passed a bill. The Senate majority leader (Reid), will not allow the bill to be voted on in the Senate (he tabled it) so as to protect the President from vetoing a fiscally responsible bill. The bill had bi-partisan support so the obvious fear was 4 Democrats in the Senate would have approved it and it would be sent to Obama's desk.

The President has offered the nation nothing. He wants to spend. Less than half of all US citizens pay taxes.

Obama trumps all other Presidents on spending of which he spends at a rate of $4.1 Billion per day. Bush was at $1.6 Billion per day and Clinton at roughly $600 Million per day.

The current Republican leadership were not the chosen leadership based on the conservatives who were swept into both houses this last election and therefore are hold outs from the RINO period. Boehner is proving day after day he is not up for this job.

The President, sadly lies every time his lips are moving.

We need to cut spending. We need to all share the tax burden. The country needs to stay within 18% GDP, not this 24% GDP that Obama is running us at.

And business leaders are finally starting to say something, from Steve Wynn to the CEO of Home Depot. This administration is about socialism. End of story.

So, here is to hoping that a change in administration comes on 11.6.12.

Are you willing to pay more in order to cover the expense of employment? Profit margins are often much lower than people think. Blame government in its willingness to serve special interests.
