let_go_let_God
Duluth Metro? Seriously? Duluth, Hermantown, Proctor and Superior? Wow that's a new one for me. Aside from that the whole MSP area does not lack for entertainment. In non rush hour conditions I can drive from the North 35 split to the South split in an hour through St. Paul. There are a few "suburbs" past that. Duluth is about 3 hours north and is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of "big city" life. There is also St. Cloud to the north Rochester to the south east and you can also reach places like Mankato and Eau Claire with relative ease. franciscanheart
I've heard I'd like it in Minneapolis so it must be amesome. I know a few people from there and they're all fantastic. If I can stay busy seven nights per week in Dallas, I'm guessing you won't have trouble finding SOMETHING to do once per week.
MissScripture
There is also St. Cloud to the north God bless- LGLG
Sorry --just, there really isn't much to do in St. Cloud, most people go to the Cities from St. Cloud for something to do. let_go_let_God
I went there more to do service work and college hockey games. I know there isn't much there, but there is something. St. Cloud is the college town in the middle of no where. God bless- LGLG
Deus te Amat
If St. Cloud is the middle of nowhere.... Also, you can always go here: I'm pretty sure that's the Basilica in the back left. It's the first basilica in the US, and it's BEAUTIFUL. The Cathedral's pretty amesome too. AND we have an excellent Archbishop.

arfink
If you come to MN and are going to be in Minneapolis then we NEED to hang out. I'm serious, it's gotta happen. We have lots of good clubs and restaurants in Minneapolis, and if you want to see some good church architecture we got that too. And some good Catholic community besides. Whereabouts in Minneapolis are you gonna be chillin? OH, and as for the brutally honest- You're going to probably find MN peeps to be a little different from the people in NYC. Alot less outgoing, alot less "in yer face." And people here will seem very passive aggressive by default, or so I am told by various people who come from out of state. Also, don't let the hot summers deceive you, it will get absolutely 100% brutally cold here in the winter. NYC has got nothing on a Minnesota winter. thessalonian
Frigid.
Oh common. We've got global warming now. Or at least we're wishing for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJUFTm6cJXM That video was done in Brainerd which is 100 miles north so don't worry about it. Way colder there. At least a degree or two every day in the winter. Edited July 22, 2011 by thessalonian

thessalonian
If you like biking there are lots of bike trails through parks and along the mississippi. Two zoos, hockey, football, baseball (twins and saints). Science museum Stillwater is a good place to go. If you like the outdoors lots of parks and of course lakes. Some interesting history, i.e. James J. Hilll Museum for instance., Fort Snelling Lake Superior, North Shore Drive Valley Fair is a pretty good amusement park Mall of America is worth going to once I guess. Minnesota is good. Cold in the winter and of course mosquitoes (they keep them pretty well under control in the cities) are the only real drawbacks I know of. Chrysophylax
On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is NYC (where everything happens), and 1 is some college campus that is otherwise in the middle of nowhere, how much "stuff is there to do?" Obviously it's not as big as NYC, but would I have a difficult time finding fun activities & friends, say 1-2 times per week on average? How easy or difficult is it to find a solid, reliable community of Catholic friends? Are there Catholics in Minnesota? Would it be almost impossible to be a single guy in Minneapolis? Or quite possible? Be brutally honest, please. By all means, tell me how wonderful Minnesota is, but also tell me if I'm going to feel like an island out there. Thanks
Yes, MN is wonderful and you must come. There certainly are Catholics in MN, and we are amesome. You can find some amazing Cath. parishes and people, visit the basilica, the Cathedral, etc. but you might not find a community of Cath. peeps hanging out together etc unless they are say part of a youthgroup or go to college together. But, if you come you could always hang out with us Phatmass peeps : obviously both Catholic and Minnesotan. As for finding a guy... Well watch for groups of people playing Ultimate Frisbee: as far as I can tell, almost every group of Catholic people in MN that hangs out together play Ultimate.
Also-- are there any reasonably dense metropolitan areas within driving distance on Minneapolis? I'm talking up to 3 hours. As a rule of thumb, if a city is big enough to support a professional sports* team, it's probably big enough for me.
YES, try the Twin Cities. There is plenty to do in MN!
Minnesota =
YES! THANK YOU!
I'm sure in the Ciites you can find some good Catholics. Other, more sparsely populated areas of the state may result in having to look harder, but it's possible. I think, overall, the state has pretty good dioceses, though, the one where I grew could use some help.
There are alot of good Catholic people and parishes in and around the cities. I agree that the farther out you go, though, you start finding some rather... interesting parishes.
Minnesota sounds cool though.
You are amesome.
Very cool.
YES! Thank you! You are amesome too. Cold in the winter and of course mosquitoes (they keep them pretty well under control in the cities) are the only real drawbacks I know of.
These are not drawbacks! They are important MN heritage that makes us amazing and hardy people. They are things to be proud of! We love -40 degree weather and we build up our amazing hand-eye coordination by swatting mosquitoes almost all year round. MN rocks
