Guest
So about 1 out of 4 times I drink I end up getting really drunk. I don't set out to get drunk but just to get a buzz. I'll drink beer then it leads to liquor. I try to convince myself I won't get drunk and set limits but it ends up happening. So I'm guessing I should stop drinking all together. I don't know if this is possible though. I've been drinking since I was 15. I work and take care of myself. Its just I enjoy drinking a lot but I know getting drunk isn't acceptable. But it always happens. Any advice ?

SoylentGreene
You have to look at this problem like an illness. Daily Mass, Communion and Rosary is the cure. If you do that you'll get better.
Luigi
A.A. Definitely recommend it. The program works if you work the program. The sooner you start attending, the easier it is to succeed. Spirituality is one of the cornerstones of the program, so also follow the advice given above. It has saved and/or improved countless lives. There are websites. If you live in a good-sized city, you'll have a number of meetings to choose from - various days, times, locations, open or closed, all males or men & women, etc.

And I'd recommend quitting cold turkey...it'll smell of elderberries more, but more often than not people have better chances of success that way. Totus Tuus
It's never too early to start going to AA meetings. Sometimes I go as preventative medicine since both my parents and many relatives have struggled with alcohol addiction. Also I would say that there is a problem if you're setting out to get a buzz. Alcohol can help you relax, but if you're setting out with the intention of getting buzzed you're setting yourself up for a fall. I am not an expert in this field but I think it may be wise for you to stop drinking.

I drink 'because' 1) I like the taste of what I am drinking, 2) it goes well/compliments whatever I am eating, 3) it's a celebration of some sort or 4) business meetings or dinners (which ultimately fall into # 1 or # 2) I don't think it's a good idea to drink to get messed up, or even buzzed.
