Nihil Obstat
I dislike kangaroos almost as much as I hate cutoff jean shorts. I blame this cult for the Hipsterization trend that has been extremely prevalent in the Urban Areas following the Gulf War. You agree or disagree with me? ClareOfAssisi
[quote name='Laudate_Dominum' timestamp='1311192322' post='2271870'] edit: Saw your post after I posted. I think it's saying that "Hottentot-Dutch half-breeds" mostly speak Dutch. That's an early 20th century ethnology and I meant something more contemporary. I read your post as asserting that the majority of people who today identity ethnically as Khoi people speak Afrikaans as their first language. Perhaps I've misinterpreted what you meant to say here. I really don't want to have an argument about it I was just curious. I can do my own research rather than make you do it. hehe. This is sad. We don't get mentioned often. You have no idea how excited we get when anything related to South Africa comes up in a movie or something . I'm thinking of Blood Diamond or District 9. Afrikaans is a great language . Carry on....

I sometimes drink Rooibos tea for what it's worth. haha. Just curious: Apart from the cape provinces do many people speak Afrikaans? I just wonder if my impression is false. My impression is that there is a great deal of linguistic pluralism in the country, even to this day.

But they both also speak English as well. I don't think they really used English until they went to school, though.
Nihil Obstat
I find the English-influenced creoles to be fascinating, from my admittedly limited experience.
