I'm not an expert on the subject but this is the first time I've heard that. Are you sure? I've read five or six books in the past nine months that say something about South African history and/or the languages of Africa, the Khoisan people, or related, and my impression is that they speak their historical Khoisan click language. Well, I imagine their traditional way of life is destroyed and many are now culturally displaced descendants of slaves and may speak a foreign tongue, but I'd guess some Bantu language would be more likely than a Dutch dialect. Anyway, if you have a source I'd be interested. Peace.

I never knew the word apartheid was Dutch for segregation.

Laudate_Dominum
edit: Saw your post after I posted. I think it's saying that "Hottentot-Dutch half-breeds" mostly speak Dutch. That's an early 20th century ethnology and I meant something more contemporary. I read your post as asserting that the majority of people who today identity ethnically as Khoi people speak Afrikaans as their first language. Perhaps I've misinterpreted what you meant to say here.
Yes and their language they principally speak is a nonstandard Dutch dialect of the Cape.
I really don't want to have an argument about it I was just curious. I can do my own research rather than make you do it. hehe. This is sad. http://books.google.com/books?id=U55eucC8XzMC&pg=133 Edited July 20, 2011 by Laudate_Dominum
