krissylou Posted July 20, 2011 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Mr. Welch was a Methodist (a deacon, I believe, though I could be wrong on that one) and invented a way to preserve unfermented grape juice specifically so that there would be a way to use it for Communion instead of wine. I haven't gone to many Lutheran services, but the few I've attended use some combination of wine and grape juice. Actual juice. From grapes.
