havok579257
Ok, so here is my question. I am a scrupulous person. I talk to a priest about it. I made a gerneral confession for all my sins with this priest. the priest says to not think about past sins anymore and to not bring to confession any sins i remember that i did not confess in this general confession. he siad they are already forgiven. although i read something that says if you remember an unconfessed mortal sin you have to confess it. although i have also read that one should follow his priest/spiritual director and all they say when one deals with scrupulosity. so my question, is what is the right thing to do? do i ignore my spiritual director and do what the keep mentioning remember unconfessed mortal sins or do i not bring them to confession like the priiest told me to? cappie
St. Alphonsus Liguori counselled that the choice of a single confessor is necessary in order to receive consistent advice and direction. If a person goes from confessor to confessor, the chance of receiving conflicting direction, even if the direction is sound and useful, is guaranteed. For the scrupulous person, this is not helpful and only confuses them, making a difficult task even more difficult. I would suggest you follow the advice of the priest regarding past sins. You could finish your confession by saying: "For these and all my other past sins I am sorry and intend to do better. I humbly ask pardon of God, and of you, Father, I ask for penance, and absolution. Amen."
