IcePrincessKRS
On a less humorous note than what follows, the college's founder, Dr. Warren Carroll passed away yesterday. Prayers for the repose of his soul are welcomed by all who loved and admired him. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/07/the-most-radical-colleges_n_892463.html#s304666&title=Christendom_College
Located in Front Royal, Virginia, Christendom College is a Catholic college with more than 400 undergraduates. The school offers six majors and a master's degree in theological studies, and all undergraduate programs begin with a core curriculum that includes study of Catholic doctrine, as well as philosophy, mathematics, and science. The core curriculum teaches students to "distinguish truth from error or distortion, and then to communicate truth accurately, effectively, and convincingly to others." Required courses include "Literature of Western Civilization," "Introduction to Philosophy," and "Fundamentals of Catholic Doctrine." When the college was founded in 1977 they declared "The only rightful purpose of education is to know the truth and to live by it. The purpose of Catholic education is therefore to learn and to live by the truth revealed by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." And the school certainly attempts to spread its "truth." On January 24, 2011, the school closed its doors so that the entire student body could attend the 2011 March for Life in Washington, D.C

BG45
I love some of these. It's radical to forgive tuition for 15 hours of work? It's radical to protest the Vietnam War? It's radical to allow people, not force them, to go to March for Life?
Lisa
hey! I know the person in the College of the Ozarks picture! and um, yeah, it's kind of sad what is considered radical in today's society.
Basilisa Marie
I was really hoping St. John's College would make the list. They only use a Great Books program, and you have to test into your junior year. There are tutors, not professors, and grades are only released on the request of the student. It's crazy, in a good way.

Vincent Vega
Also, why do they say radial like it's a bad thing? Put your most used buildings at the hub and the lesser used buildings as the spokes and you will have a much more efficient campus than, say, one where all of the buildings are lined up and stretched out in a linear fashion for miles and miles. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take one of the last classes he taught at the college. I consider it an honor to have been taught by such a radical man. lol

MissyP89
All for that "truth" they're trying to spread. So oppressive. The quotation marks in that brief are really sleazy. Edited July 18, 2011 by MissyP89

(Not sure exactly what a "radial college" is though.) Dr. Carroll, founder of Christendom, RIP He was my mentor. I was a History major from one of the last classes to graduate while Dr. Carroll was still teaching the bulk of the history courses.
So do they teach bomb making in Science?
I wish. . . . I had fun (sort of) reading all the hysterical huffin' and puffin' in the comments section about the unspeakable horrors of "right-wing radicalism" from the lefty Huff'n'puff Post-reading crowd, and the huge dangers it poses to our society. I'm afraid they'd be really bored if they discovered the reality of life at "radical" schools like Christendom. Students, professors, and alumni, go out and do really radical, extreme things like vote for conservative and libertarian political candidates, attend Mass in Latin, marry people of the opposite sex and have big families, and (gasp! shock!) attend pro-life rallies. But actually, I guess most of those things do tend to cause folks on the "moderate, sensible" Left to blow blood vessels. You know, we're really just a step away from the Taliban and Al Qaeda. . . . Edited July 19, 2011 by Socrates
