Uh, at a former parish (over 20 years ago), a neighbor told me that the music director did actually hang a disco ball from the ceiling (before I moved into that parish).

I've been to masses like this. Actually if you go to a mass in Africa or Haiti you are likely to see something like this. Growing up that is all I knew (and then I found the latin mass) while I prefer the quiet celebration of the liturgy, unless I see glaring abuses I can overlook the music.

This seems to imply that music can't be an abuse...there are guidelines laid down for music just like every other aspect of the mass.

I can honestly say the only time I went to a mass where the music was abusive was a life teen mass. The Credo was partly sung and same with the Gloria (which I have no problem with being sung but this particular instance only a couple of verses were sung which meant the credo and Gloria were not fully recited)

What I am trying to get at is, I've been to masses where the music is "lively" and yet not abusive.
