MithLuin
That pertained to Fatima, not Medjugorje. The Church cannot give a seal of approval until after the event has ended. In the case of Fatima and Lourdes (two approved Marian apparitions), the visions had ceased well before the Church granted official recognition. So, no, the Church cannot grant approval, while some visionaries are still claiming daily/monthly/yearly visions of Mary. That being said, however, the Church does not seem likely to approve Medjugorje. Too many Church investigations have concluded extreme skepticism, even to the point of saying, if it was legitimate once, it is not any longer. As a lay person with little personal experience of such things as visions and locutions, I can merely look to the fruits. In some cases, there are extreme negatives; and in others, fruitful conversions. I think that some very sincere people have encountered God there, and that the faith of the people of that town is commendable. But that doesn't mean the visions are real. St. John of the Cross counseled people to ignore visions. If they were of God, the good that was intended for the soul had already been granted in the moment the vision was experienced. If they were not...best not to give them any traction in your life. Pilgrimages are good. I urge people to take them! Rome and the Holy Land are great destinations, as are Fatima and Santiago de Compestela. You get out of them what you put into them; the journey must be approached with a spirit of prayer and repentence. The generation that demands a sign will not get it.
