They are preparing you for the worst you could run in to. It won't be as bad as you are being put through. Hang in there. You will do fine.

 • 2 weeks later...

I cry every day. Some parents are super nice. Other parents are super mean. I have a kid who doesn't know numbers. I've had exactly 65 hrs of sleep over the past 14 days. I don't know what I'm doing. It is lonely. Everyone else leaves at 3 (when do they plan???? set up???) and I'm stuck here till 10. Then get here again at 6:30 in the morning and repeat. I knew it would be hard. But when will it get easier? I made friends with the other teachers, but they can't help me. They've got little kids and they don't have time. God Himself has to help me. Please Jesus! I wish I could see into the future and know everything would be okay ... as it is I have to go eat another ice cream cone ... at least we have monday off! one less day to plan for!

Hang in there, kid. Monday is not only one less day to plan for, it's also one more day to plan - maybe you can get a little bit ahead of the curve this weekend?

so this weekend was a hot mess. spent it wet, sobby, paralyzed, panicked. I called my team leader and told her we have to meet. I simply cannot go on like this. I think she may understand, because she said when she was a 1st year she felt like she was "drowning." Exactly. But will she be able to help me? Who knows ...

On top of everything I've caught a cold. Joy.

to comfort mysef i look for jobs on craigslist and tell myself there's other stuff I can do if teaching does not stop destroying me body and soul. but how long should I hang in there?

Take a deep breath, count to 3, then let it out to 3.

Okay, now try to think clearly about the first thing that you need to do - be it marking, planning a lesson, or heck - making a cup of tea! Forget the big picture for now, it will only overwhelm you. Break it all down, so one bit at a time and keep it organised. Anytime you start panicing again, take that deep breath again.

I always find it takes at least a month to get comfortable in a job, and my current one took over 6 mths. Don't panic, don't look at the weeks ahead, just look one step ahead of you.

You will be fine - you can do this!

As for the cold? The first year working with kids you will probably get them back to back - take out shares in Beechams! Hope you feel better soon.

God bless you
