havok579257
Can a person refuse to use a certain priest for confession because they are feeling ashamed/embarressed because they are ashamed to being going back to confession so soon because they are scrupulous? I am scrupulous person and when i go to confession i like to go to this one priest/priests who just listens to my confession, gives me advice, gives me absolution and penance. there is another priest in my parish i go to who will talk about how i am too scrupulous. although i feel i need to confess the sins i have on my soul or i will fret about them until no end. i know he is probobly right that i am being scrupulous, since he is a priest and he knows better than me. also i feel like he recognizes me, so i feel intimidated by him. now i am going to meet with this priest about my scrupuosity soon. although i had to go to confession after we talked about meeting together for my scrupulosity and i purposley avoided him becasue i was ashamed/embarressed. i chose to go to another priest for confession. i didn't change my confession, its just that i felt less embarressed/ashamed. is this allowed? or are you required to go to a specific priest unless they are not available. Brother Adam
You may go to which ever priest you so choose to go to confession to as long as they have faculties to hear confessions. There is no requirement that you go to any particular priest. I know some people who travel from over an hour away to go to confession at our parish for the anonymity. That you are fully open and honest with Jesus, through the priest, is more important than the who the specific priest is.
