i think the title of this thread is just seriously whacked...

and by the way, for our non-Catholic pham...please be advised that the Church is not a corporation. The Pope has supreme authority in spiritual matters, but he aint a CEO. He is not personally responsible for every thing every member of the Body of Christ does. He does not hire or fire the people working in the office in my local parish.

The media continues to show its bias and ignorance by continuing to report the issue as if the Church were a business with a Gantt org chart. Don't be duped - yer smarter than that. Take time to find out the truth for yerself.

Why do you think the title of this thread is "whacked"?

It could be phrased a tad bit better, but I understand the question. There are no statistics on any group outside the Catholic Church other than school teachers, since no one is required to report them to any specific agency.

The rate in the catholic Church for accusations is 2 %.

This thread has a purpose. Apologetically one should never go on the offensive with information regarding the sins of protestant pastors. However at times when a protestant has been gloaty about the sins of our priests I have presented them with information regarding sins of their clergy. The following information is useful.

1) Www.reformation.com contains articles concerning protestant child abuse. A similar list or articles can be obtained at:
http://stopbaptistpredators.org/news.html

2) Phil Jenkins, a protestant scholar has studied the matter and I believe has a book out on it.

http://www.jknirp.com/jenkins3.htm

3) An article that sheds some light claiming there are 70 incidents per week (3500 per year based on insurance claims by all denominations) of child abuse in religious institutions (mainly protestant) in the united states.

http://www.bcelibate.com/lovestickers_article.php?art=1&top=3

4) An interesting article by the Catholic league.

http://www.bishop-accountability.org/reports/2004_02_CatholicLeague_SexualAbuse.htm

The southern baptists did a study in the mid 90s and found that 11-13% of their pastors had engaged in sexual activity with women other than their wife. I have seen similar numbers for other denominations.

Again this information should be used carefully as we don't want to point fingers, nor do we want to imply that 2 wrongs make a right or give the impression that is what we are saying when we present such information.

The primary reason that the Catholic Church gets so much attention in this matter is the hierarchical structure which allows for suing of a diocese rather than just a parish. Follow the money. Baptist Churches for example are autonomous, even though they may be "southern baptists" for instance. Therefore one cannot sue the southern baptists per se.

http://poetrypal.tripod.com/sexual-abuse.html

"Statistics show 38 million adults have been sexually abuse in which 27% are women and 16% men. That indicates one in every three women and one in every seven men were sexually abused as children."

Ya, it's everywhere.
