havok579257
First off I appriciate all the help I have been given on this forum. There is just so many things to learn about catholisism and this forum really helps that I can just ask someone and get a straight forward answer. many times looking online for things you can get answers that are not very straight forward or are very hard to understand. so i really appriciate all the help that has been given to me. my question is, if you remember a sin from the past, a sin that was venial at the time of it happening because you did not know it was a sin but it concerns a grave matter are you required to confess it at your next confession. i know with mortal sins, if forgotten need to be confessed at your next confession or its considered a sin because you are holding sins back. my questions is, if in the past you committed a venial sin because you did not even know it was a sin but it involved a grave matter are you required to confess it at your next confession and if you don't is that considered holding back sins and the confession becomes invalid? Or since it was a venial sin at the time are you not required to confess it at your next confession. i understand it might be a good idea to confess it but my question is, is it required and if not confessed, does the confession become invalid? cappie
If you are worrying that maybe you never confessed a certain sin from your past, consider it confessed. If you know for a fact that you have never confessed that sin, then confess it simply. The Holy Spirit does not torment us with doubts and/or guilt; rather, He always brings peace as He awakens our conscience to our sins. (cf. 2 Corinthians 7:10-11: “Indeed, sorrow for God’s sake produces a repentance without regrets, leading to salvation, whereas worldly sorrow brings death. Just look at the fruit of this sorrow which stems from God. What a measure of holy zeal it has brought you.”)
