havok579257
Is it a sin to not follow traffic laws. Like not coming to a stop at a stop sign or going slightly over the speed limit like less than 5 miles per hour? Could this ever be a mortal sin? cappie
CCC 1874 To choose deliberately - that is, both knowing it and willing it - something gravely contrary to the divine law and to the ultimate end of man is to commit a mortal sin. This destroys in us the charity without which eternal beatitude is impossible. Unrepented, it brings eternal death. 1875 Venial sin constitutes a moral disorder that is reparable by charity, which it allows to subsist in us. As long as I am not endangering my own life of anyone else's, and that I am willing to pay the penalty for having broken any laws if caught, that I am in the clear. Traffic laws are essentially a morally neutral matter, as long as one is not dangerous or unwilling to pay for wrongs done if caught. So going a few miles over the limit, or not stopping completely at a stop sign when no one is there, is not a serious problem and a venial sin at most. Endangering the welfare of yourself or others by reckless driving, drunken driving would be a mortal sin, with all the usual qualifications.
