CatherineM
My experience with death penalty appeals has jaded me. I do wonder if the verdict would have been different had Casey been African-American.

MithLuin
Rather, the matter of her guilt and her innocence is between she and the Lord alone.
...and anyone who has seen her face on TV. I'm sorry, but this will follow her the rest of her life, and even dying her hair, changing her name, and moving to another state will not erase the double-take when people realize, 'Hey, you're Casey Anthony, the woman who killed her toddler....'
Not pointing a finger at you, because you and to my knowledge no one else in this thread has said anything to the effect, but I've seen some really chilling stuff on Facebook about the verdict. People hoping she gets gunned down outside the courthouse so that she can go to face eternal damnation as soon as possible. People encouraging others to go "Boondock Saints on her ***".
Well, yes, there is this. Mob justice. Seldom just, but it makes people feel better for some reason. It's like the partying in the streets when bin Laden was killed. Doesn't make our country look good, but.... Most of it is just vitriol, blowing off steam. The body was just bones when they found it - it's hard to prove anything under those circumstances. Scott Peterson made the mistake of having an alibi that put him at the place where the body was eventually found. The evidence is not exactly circumstantial. I don't think there was any clear evidence that she killed her daughter, though I think there is clear evidence she hid the body and didn't report the girl missing. There's also no one else who would have done it, so..... A narrative of how the girl died would have really helped get a conviction in a murder trial. Cherie
Did we hear the jury's opinion? Are we going to? If so, where can I find it, and if not, why not?
Papist
Anyone who genuinely paid attention to this trial and looked at the evidence without automatically trying to put her away .could see reasonable doubt left and right. The system still works. As a general rule, the louder Nancy Grace gets, the more I assume the accused is actually innocent, and that philosophy has proven AMAZINGLY astute over the years. /Haters gonna hate. Papist
Had I been the prosecutor, I would have gone for child neglect and voluntary manslaughter. I don't think it was premeditated. I think she was doping her so she could go out partying. I've seen a lot of single moms who do this so they can work who can't afford babysitters. Sometimes it goes wrong. I think they had a better chance of proving that scenario.
So True. My brother witnessed his co-worker feeding her 2-year-old screwdrivers to get him to sleep so she could party w/o being bothered.

How much deference would a jury have given a hulked-up twentysomething with tattoos and a taste for the night-life, accused of the same crimes and prosecuted with the same amount of circumstantial evidence? FutureSister2009
I had an epiphany at Mass this morning on this Feast of St. Maria Goretti. Whether or not Casey Anthony is guilty, I am going to continue to pray for her conversion. Maybe someday we will know the truth. God does know but I will pray He gives her grace and forgiveness. I am called to pray for sinners just like St. Therese.

A friend and I were discussing last night how, aside from all the money she'll make having copyrighted their names already and with book and movie deals, she'll never be safe in public again.
