Catholic Care Package?

So my boyfriend just moved to Missouri to begin a master's degree program. He's in the heart of what he calls "Baptist Country." He was raised Catholic, and recently returned to the Church. I was wondering if any of you have some suggestions for a housewarming Catholic care package, particularly for a new apartment?

Wall rosary and a holy water font. Blessing yourself with holy water when you leave the house never hurts in the bible belt.

Hahaha, these are great! I told him to make friends with the local parish priest by asking him to come over and bless his apartment (like we had the deacons do at our undergrad university)...but I'm not sure he's outgoing enough for that yet. He's from New Jersey, and new to the concept of being a religious minority. But these ideas should help! Thank you everyone! :smile2:

A Spiritual Bouquet is always a great thing to give a fellow Catholic. It consists of a nice card or some such that says "I offered ___ number of Masses for you" or "____ adoration hours" or rosaries or prayers of any kind. Those are always appreciated. One thing that we really like to put in any care package, though, is some type of snack, like cheezits or some such. And hand made notes and letters! Maybe a new pair of socks or some little gift. and if you fill the box really full, that just makes unpacking/ receiving it so much nicer!

I forgot to add that you should send cookies.

A BIBLE! Hopefully he already has one, but if not, he'll need it more than ever in the bible belt. There's nothing like being surrounded by Protestants who think they know your religion better than you do.

A Bible, a rosary, a crucifix, a reference book on Catholicism - like a dictionary of Catholicism. And sign him up for a subscription to the local Catholic newspaper - it'll have all sorts of information about local churches, Masses, Catholic activities, and resources.

It also depends on where in Missouri he's going. The big cities - St. Louis & Kansas City - are heavily Catholic. They have monasteries, Catholic schools, Catholic hospitals, various religious orders, etc. The smaller cities tend to be more heavily Baptist, but Springfield has a strong Catholic presence (it's a diocese, with a co-cathedral - the other co-cathedral is in Cape Girardeau), Jefferson City is a diocese with a cathedral. The towns tend to be more heavily Baptist, but they don't usually ahve colleges in them. And many of the small towns have a Catholic church - usually named Sacred Heart or Immaculate Conception, or perhaps named after a German saint.

He'll be fine.
