Life Lessons

Ponder. Ponder. Ponder. I've spent a lot of time doing just that over the course of ... well, my whole life, I guess. Anyway, I just finished reading a wonderful (secular, though the author is Catholic) book, God Never Blinks by Regina Brett. She is very down to earth and the book stears clear of any self help type BS, and trust me, I am the QUEEN of reading "self-help" books. Or least I was as one-point.

The book has me thinking about life lessons, but small and large that I've learned as I approach one of those big milestones of life ... the big 4-0. So, I'm curious as to what life lessons you've learned? What little tidbits do you plan to pass on to others, children, friends etc?

My first one is ... never try to pull out the fork you dropped in the toaster.

What's yours?

I was asked a similar question at work recently. They were putting together a little poster for the breakroom and wanted senior team members to pass along words of wisdom to some of the new hires who come on during the summer prior to campus opening. My answer actually got me in trouble, though I really think it's a good piece of advice:

"Shut up and work. Complaining never helps anyone. Just shut up and do what's necessary."

It really is a piece of advice I feel strongly about. It's kinda something that I took from Josemaria Escriva. He said something like "Shut up and be a man" once and it really stuck with me. Running your mouth about what should or ought to be doesn't change what it is. Just do your thing, be quiet and you'll probably land on your feet.

Four things that I live by, which I believe are responsible for my amazingly blessed and happy life...

Haters gonna hate. (Proverbs 9:8)

Charge it to the game.

Who cares.

Get over it.
‎"Don't say 'That's the way I am--it's my character!' It's your LACK of character. Esto vir--BE A MAN!" - Josemaria Escriva

(I hate when people say "It's just the way I am" whenever a negative character trait is identified)

Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but love is everything.

People are as happy as they make up their minds to be.

My favorite quote:

"Life is not about the waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."

A very true quote that I am constantly trying to apply in my own life. :)
