How Do I Carry The Book Of Gospels In To Mass?

I wound up being one of the readers for this coming weekend, and this will be the first time I have to carry the book in during the procession. How do I do it? I know I hold it up in front of me, but how high? And when I reach the altar, do I just set it down the same way I'm holding it?

I would raise it above your head, not directly above, but with arms stretched out in front of you. I lay it directly on the altar without turning it around our anything. When I hold it the front cover is facing outward. Some priests I have worked with insist that I hold it in front of my chest and I oblige them.
