Maria
I voted for reader, although you shouldn't take that too seriously. It was mostly because I don't like it that Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are regularly scheduled. When I go to Mass at school, where there are no EMHC's, what the priest does, distributing communion, holding Jesus, seems so amesome. But it doesn't really seem quite so amesome at my home parish, just because the set up, &c. doesn't encourage it. In which case I really think I wouldn't want to be an EMHC, because He deserves that honour, and the circumstances would discourage me from giving that. On the other hand, I'm a reader for the summer schedule, and while I get kind of nervous (though not as much as when I'm cantoring), I'm pretty much okay with it. I know I can read the readings well. Of course, I don't really like being up on the sanctuary at all...
fides' Jack
My schismatic roots want to say that neither is best. I would prefer going to a Mass where the Priest does all the readings and there aren't any Extraordinary Ministers. But due to the same roots, I recently discovered that I'm not really suited to serving at all in any of those ways myself (including serving (as an altar man)). I'm way too arrogant and prideful to be in such a position of honor.
Lil Red
Like others have said, what do you feel called to? Personally? I could never be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, because I could never fathom how to show the reverence due to the Lord as I distributed Him to person after person; nor could I probably keep my mind on praise of Him given the way some people are so callous in receiving. Plus, I'd be scared of dropping Him!!
yup
BG45
I concur with BG45.

yup
Thanks. Like I said earlier, all of this has been speaking personally, on all our parts in regards to your question. It's what you think God is calling you to do. We can all sit here and pontificate our opinions all we want, but when it comes to serving Him, it's what you think He wants after praying about. And if you've posted here, I'm pretty sure from the vibe I get from your posts (such as discerning the priesthood) that you've already been praying! I have been asked a number of times if I would become EMHC but the very thought overwhelms me, my own weaknesses are just so great that I would rather someone else held this important office. I don't think it worries me too much though about other people's attitude when they recieve. I would love if we were all always in a state of grace when we recieve, if we all always did it with absolute reverence, but I also think that if someone is having trouble in one way or another, then recieving Christ can only help them.
Word. IMHO, no one is "worthy" of serving as EMHC or reader. God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
