My Grandfathers

Both of my grandfathers are doing pretty poorly. One of them has developed early signs of Alzheimer's disease and has terrible hearing loss.

But my other grandfather (paternal) is the one I am most worried about. He has been in poor health for a few years now, beginning with a broken hip that has occurred twice. When older people break a hip, it is quite usual that their quality of life decreases and it has been occurring with him. It first started with an awful kidney infection that led to his kidney and bladder being damaged irreparably. His bladder is like cement. It has no muscle tone anymore, either. His kidney that was affected is in terrible shape and is constantly having recurring infections from the stint being put in (to hold the vein open to let urine pass through). The doctor wants to take his bad kidney out but they don't think the other one can do the work of two. I'm worried that it will get worse and he'll have to go on dialysis. He was in the hospital a month ago for a bad blood clot which still hasn't resolved. The doctors are constantly monitoring him, but my grandfather has basically given up and appears as though he doesn't care about his health anymore. I think he is depressed and needs to be under psychiatric care, but he refuses. Yesterday, his blood pressure was 85/65 which is extremely low and he refused to go to the hospital. My grandmother is of no help. She should have called an ambulance but instead she called his doctor who did not admit him to the hospital immediately.

This cannot go on without him having more and more health issues. My grandmother keeps claiming that she is going to take over his care, but hasn't done it yet and it may be too late when she does. Neither one of them attend church anymore after my grandfather got ill because he can't sit in the pew that long and she is afraid to leave him at home by himself. They aren't Catholic, either. They are Methodist.

Please pray for the both of him, but especially my paternal grandfather. I'm worried we might lose him soon.
