HopefulBride
I got sunburn while tubing. I have never burned before this and I foolishly thought that brown/dark skin folks don't burn. So now I gotta wear sunscreen??? :gasp: p.s. Peeling is horrible, especially when most of it is your face.

CatherineM
In college a bunch of us went to the beach, and the worst burn was Sylvester. He was from Ethiopia. He was just miserable.

I mean I am always laying out in the sun with nothing.. Now I have to rethink todo!

Unfortunately as well as lily white skin I also have ultra sensitive skin so can only use certain brands, otherwise I react.
CatherineM
I'm not just lightly skinned, I take medicine that reacts badly with the sun. Skin cancer also runs in the family. My mom has the skin on her arms burned off about once every 2-3 years. She's having the left side done again soon.
Teen_Catholic
I have incredibly light skin and I use kid or baby sunscreen. That stuff is the best; it is high in SPF and is great for sensitive skin.
cmotherofpirl
I went to a service this week where 5 sisters from one family were in attendance. The eldest (55) has worked steady night turn for the last 20 years, her skin is lovely and fresh, if she didn't have pure white hair you would think she is about 40. Her younger sisters who spend lots of time in the sun by the pool etc look considerably older than she does, the difference was astonishing. CatherineM
I've seen that same kind of difference in sisters where one smokes and the other doesn't.
OnlySunshine
I burn like crazy! I'm as fair as they come and I cannot be out in the sun without sunscreen for over 30 minutes without getting toasted. I have found my friend in Coppertone Water Babies Pure and Simple SPF 70. Coppertone is the best stuff there is. I've used their sport line, too, but I like the Water Babies line the best because it is less harsh on my sensitive skin and is not sticky. My mom has used Water Babies on me since I was teeny tiny. My pediatrician recommended it. Unfortunately, this past Sunday I made the mistake of not wearing any sunscreen during the Eucharistic Procession at my Church and I was wearing a sheer blouse with a tank top underneath. Part of my shoulder and the back of my neck got sunburnt. It got it pretty bad, too, as it hurts when I put anything on it. I didn't think we'd be out for 30 minutes. You put it on in the morning, then have to dance around naked for 20mins or so but then it lasts a whole day once its dry and can take swimming etc. You dont feel like you have it on and can sweat through it - I come out in a horrible allergic rash from anything you can't sweat through. Its expensive but as you dont have to keep reapplying it lasts ages.
Adrestia
I also used to think that I could get away without wearing sunscreen. My family is from Jamaica, how could I possibly need that stuff? Ha. Yeah. The peeling from the face was the worst. I have found that short sun exposures help. My complexion changes rapidly once I'm in sunlight. It only takes 15 or 20 minutes for noticeable tan lines to form. After a couple weeks of short exposures I can handle longer ones w/o burning.
