Catholics Being Uncatholic

Both in my time as a Catholic and as an Atheist, I have found more than a few Catholics who are despicable people. How do you handle these people when they are a source of problems?

In all walks of life there are people that can irritate you.
You must understand what it is that you have influence over. I find the most powerful approach is to have control of your own reaction to the things that irritate you. If you are good at it, you can't be irritated. Why does it annoy you if someone else strongly vocalises their opinion? It's their opinion, they have a right to have it, you don't have to agree with it.

Having an opinion doesn't make one a despicable person.

Running over puppies with your car on purpose might.

Molesting a child definitely does.

We're all sinners, and most of us have a darker side than we typically show. It's just... what to do?

The Bible's advice is to approach the person privately to share your concern. If the problem continues, try to get others to help you address it. And if that doesn't work....get away from the person, if possible.

If you are married to the person in question, I'm not sure what to tell you.

sometimes the best thing to do is to leave the situation completely and forever.

Yes. Yes. And, Yes.

If it's on a phorum don't read their posts, put them on ignore. Avoid communicating with them because you know you are at odds with them. Avoidance may not always be the best answer, but in many cases it will save both parties a heck of a lot of headaches and stress.

I don't know in what context you are referring to. If regarding engaging in a conversation with someone, I try to have the mentality of I am not going to change their mind or conduct. I try to avoid a debate and try to have a conversation just so I can understand that person. Conversation can go south real fast when each person is trying to convince each other is right and the other must submit and agree. And if the other person is behaving despicable as you say, I would simply state that is conversation is getting sour and perhaps we should not have this conversation and move on. This has worked with me when having conversations with strangers in bars. It really disarms them.

Just be even holier than you always are. Perhaps get some laws passed and have a few of them put in prison. That'll learn 'em.

If you are talking about pro-choice politicians, or the like, then I'd say excommunication in a canonical court. Very publicly.

The same as you would handle a despicable atheist?

I like water boarding better!!! It's so much more...oh I don't know....torturous.

The rack is too traditional for me. Reminds me of those Spaniards and Dominicans who did so much harm during the Inquisition...you know reason #234545323342212344433099392839223459832475234095723405892347098676633333.1 to be an atheist.
