Feriku
So, does anyone here write, or want to be an author, like I do? It's a dream of mine...it's what I want to do as my career... I would be so happy if I could start getting things published. I've wanted to be an author since I was in second grade, actually, and I haven't given up yet (despite the stream of rejection letters and jokes about how I'll be stuck working at fast food joints). I'm majoring in English, as well.
goldenchild17
I'm an English major also. I'll probably end up teaching, but writing is what I would rather do more than anything else. I'm working on a few fiction rough drafts and have submitted a few poems to different journals. Rejection is the name of the game. Use them as motivation and take whatever critique the rejection might have included and use it to improve your writing, no matter how small or insignificant the change might seem. Feriku
Yay! Yeah, I try not to let the rejections get me too down. Lately I've received a few personal rejections, which has made me very happy. I mean, it's still not acceptance, but it offers advice AND seems a step up from the generic "Thank you for submitting [story title here], but it is not what we're looking for at this time." goldenchild17
amesome Personal rejections, strangely enough, are actually not such a bad thing. It means they liked your submission well enough to give it a good read and anytime they give suggestions back it is above and beyond their usual course of action. So definitely if you can use what they suggest to fix up your work then you can only get closer to getting published. I don't know if you read on twitter very often, but it is also helpful to find the twitter accounts of the different literary agents who work in promoting authors in the genres you write and following them because they will often post pretty useful information on there. CatherineM
As much as I complain about all the tasks that come with being a writer, I will admit that seeing my name on the cover of a book was serious cool. My husband once got so many rejections for a book that he presented them to Guinness in hope it was some kind of world record.
BG45
I do NaNoWriMo every November, but other than that my fiction writing has dried up with the demands of school.
ThePenciledOne
I've written a high-fantasy novel back in high school that I need to re-vamp. I dealt with my own share of questions/insults/mocking in high school about it, since I wanted to be a writer. Now, I'm a double major in English (Writing Concentration) and Philosophy. I used to want to teach Literature, but I think I am instead going into Philosophy. That's amesome that you're pursing it though, takes a special kind of person to do it. I would know. MissyP89
I'm an urban fantasy kinda girl, both in writing and reading. But these days, I tend to let my creative side out in music. Professionally, I'm a journalist. (No really, I am. Get out your pitchfork! )

[/quote] I know. The first time I got one, I couldn't help but think, "Wow--they really DID read it!" The one place doesn't seem to mind you rewriting and trying again, so I've been following the editor's advice and resubmitting one story for a little bit now. xD I don't use Twitter, so I've never done that. I'm more into fantasy, sci-fi, or horror, for both writing and reading, but I've read a thing or two in urban fantasy, I think. I have no problem with journalists... Well, at least not the ones who actually report the news.

MithLuin
I write fanfiction, so I get to enjoy feedback from my audience without any of the trials and tribulations of trying to get published (as that's not even an option). I don't consider myself to be a 'real' writer, but I do enjoy it as a hobby. I'm a very amateur storyteller and rely heavily on the original work to make my own interesting. If anyone would like to check out my stories, feel free: http://www.fanfiction.net/~mithluin

Too objective as to what is a legitimate submission, and what is just being submitted to get the record.

AudreyGrace
I have always been so envious of writers (which probably isn't a good thing.. lol). I have a ton of respect for them. My friends and teachers have told me I'm a good writer and I should pursue it, but idk. I wouldn't even know WHAT to write.
